Military coup in Turkey?

If there is military loyal to Erdogan hopefully this doesn't turn Turkey into a Syria mk2.

Given that officials are claiming it isn't supported by the military leadership (could still be a lie) then I doubt the military are united.

Its fascinating that they seem to have planned this meticulously - taking action when the top government officials were on holiday or on other engagements out the country/capital, taking over the airport, etc. to make sure they can't easily regain control and comprehensively commandeering military and civilian administration, etc. while being orchestrated apparently from the ranks of more middle ranking military rather than top brass - does make one wonder if it is foreign sponsored.

The top brass are more likely to be politically affiliated to the government of the day so makes sense it is a group slightly lower down.

Hold that thought, I suspect this is not an unexpected event to the US and a few other countries....

rather a big difference between having advanced knowledge of and choosing not to do anything and actual involvement though

the former being much more plausible
