What do you do if you are a NATO member though?

Do you denounce the coup as is your duty to support a democratic government?

Or do you work with any new government effectively condoning the coup, but maintain links with a key member.

In the case of military coup I guess work with whoever emerges as the "government" while pressing for assurances of democratic process being implemented.

Yep, but that is effectively doing nothing.

Turkey is a relatively divided country (this coup I doubt will have majority backing), and the supporters of the current government will expect the harshest of words to be used and actions taken.

Otherwise you just risk a country like Turkey just giving up on democracy.
