Minecraft (online Lego essentially)

Good work Rroff.

Sorry droony but your claim was just way too large. Another vote here for no claims boundaries, if you want to do a big building then set foundations for it so no one builds on it. There's no need to claim a massive chunk of land then leave it.

I also liked the idea of a flattish map with street layout and each person getting a reasonable sized plot like 30x30 or so.

EDIT: Server seems to be down atm.

No worries :-)

Work is going well on the D-Day beach landing area , feel free to add whatever you like (aslong as it's related :P)

That's pretty sweet Trin :)

Sometimes I wish the bricks were half the size so you could get more small details in.. then flattening would take 8 times as long though =/

Ouch at that framerate...

So far I've been more impressed by the stuff built on the smaller maps - the larger amount of space seems to have resulted in lots of bigger structures with less attention to detail.

Lol , that's what happens playing on a crappy laptop :) If i change the view distance though it shoot up :D

I dunno about more detail on smaller maps , although as darg said , it's annoying to get any detail with blocks 1/2 the size of the block people :(

Oh , the server crashed overnight again , so i've just restarted it and it's now online :D

I think as soon as peoples structures start going up and they can remove the multicoloured boundaries all over the place the map will start to look a lot better.

Can't wait for the themed server though. Road system with plots for everyone no more claim boundaries!

Agreed, I want sewers too, I think that would be an awesome feet, spesh if we got water going through them. Tube system would also be pretty kl.

Yep i'm well up for doing that, perhaps i should host one, should be cool if we only have 5 - 6 people editing the map.

Can you password protect the games sessions?

Sewers, rivers, tubes, bridges. We should have everything. Even floods when some dork tunnels from the sewers into the river :p

Haha, yeh, that's why we need to keep server restricted from the pretty pink/destruction gang :p

(I'm Loomy on minecraft btw)

Heres the plan - I appreciate that some people are prolly frustrated with all the changes but hopefully this will be the last time.

Once the server quiets down tonight I will move the huge map back to the old box - not sure how well it will run on there - if anyone wants to take it off my hands and host it they are welcome - but your gonna need atleast a gig of free swap space and several hundred Mb of free physical RAM to have any chance of it not crashing frequently. Also upload wise it only uses 20KB/s or so for 10 players - but you'll really need atleast 2Mbit/s up to be able to serve the map out at a decent speed to connecting players - otherwise it will take ages for people to connect and the server will become laggy for those playing while a new person downloads the map.

On the new VPS I will hopefully run 2 normal sized servers, one will be a fun server where pretty much anything goes (other than griefing) and the other with be a city themed construction server that will be moderated - voice servers will also be going up.
