Minecraft (online Lego essentially)

Got a basic chicken farm up for collecting eggs for cake / arrows. Having issues with the chickens killing themselves however. I read this is due to suffocation as they push each other into blocks and using glass or fence helps get rid of this issue but it's still happening (albeit much less often). Any further tips? read the minecraft wiki but couldn't get much else. Got two 2x2 blocks with 3 chickens in each. Also, do animals (chickens in this case!) heal over time?

So i downloaded Minecraft a week ago while visiting family & being a noob i asked a couple of questions in the Minecraft server thread. I was told your loot remains when you leave a 'world' but after quiting one single player survival world & creating another my inventory was empty?

Someone probably advised you that it stayed because you were talking in the server chat thread, where if you leave the server, your items will be there when you come back. Usually! ;P

mmm Veal :p

1.9 pre3 server world generation horribly broken :(

Noticed intially it was generating 3 levels (0-2) rather than the usual 2 (0-normal, 1-nether)

Actually it is not. This is direct corruption of the normal level, you walk along level normal ground that extends to bedrock and encounter this on the same level. Try creating and testing a server and you will soon see what I've probably not explained clearly enough for people.

Sorry - I meant that now its generating 3 levels rather than 2 is the skylands. I seen a posted earlier titled something along the lines of "Skylands interfering with normal world generation"

After viewing Jens live stream and how he seemed to following a logical path to eventually locate the Portal room (after getting lost) I wondered about Strongholds having a logical structure with random elements.

I did some excavations of 1.9pre3 strongholds using a couple of seeds from here: http://www.minecraftforum.net/topic/698456-19-pre3-seed-stronghold-seed/.

The following save games are from the above seeds and contain partially excavated Strongholds, from these excavations you can see the purpose of the debug pillars and why they come in pairs. One pillar intersects the corner of the highest part of the Stronghold which is the entry stairwell. The second pillar intersects the corner of the Portal room to the Ender realm. From the Stronghold entrance there is not always an open passageway leading to the Portal room and may require mining, the correlation of the entrance to the Portal room is fairly consistent making it easy to locate. Jeb demonstrated using an Eye of Ender as a locating device on the surface for finding Strongholds below and will be how they are found in future.

Savegame1: Stronghold (seed -7521439132369864874)

Savegame2: Stronghold 2 (seed -1243764059)
Download link: http://www.darktech.co.uk/Stronghold%202.zip 2.4mb

The first savegame has the Stronghold fully lit and explored, the second has only the entrance and portal room excavated down from the pillars and is unexplored.

Edit: File sizes added.
