Mini keyring-sized digital camera/camcorder

Take a look at the TK201 on this page: http://www.mr-lee-catcam.de/pe_cc_o2_en.htm

It's designed for tracking pets but if you spend 10 minutes reading through the PDF on the site you'll see that it has many features and talks over the GSM network via SMS. I don't have any idea how far up you can get GSM coverage but on the way up and as it falls down you can track it.

It's about £90 which seems quite good for the features it has to offer.

Cheers, I will have a read through. I did notice it features an SOS button, remembering this is for pets....

Is this due to the SD card, batteries or a limit of the camera? If it's the batteries then you should be able to rig an external power supply.

From reading on here its a camera limit, will have to look into it when I get mine.

Biggest SD card you can get for it would support 4 x 30 minute recordings.. (16gb) (recording closes and saves after 30 mins then auto starts after) which would cover the 2 hours. Wiring in a battery would sort the time limit, one small 3.7v would make it last the full 2 hours so not too much needs to be done really.

Ah ok , thats good that it auto restarts.

Well its around 2 hours up, but will be quite a while down as well which would be good to record.

Mine has arrived :D \o/

It's surprisingly well made, with nice rubberised plastic. Charging now, can't wait to have a play :)

Man I'm such a tool :p I've got the latest DXVA supported version of FFDShow and never realised it also installs the encoder for ACM compatible encoder applications like VDub :p

My issue at first was that I had installed the 64-bit VirtualDub, and for some reason that doesn't support additional codecs. Couldn't figure it out at all until I tried the 32-bit version. :p

Just finished uploading it to youtube anyway, 56 minutes later and youtube turns around and says 'Failed (unable to convert video file)'. I'll try again. :o

Use the standard mpeg4 profile, I think youtube has issue with h264 files using avc/high profile modes.

I think I might give it ago, ive been looking into it since ordering the camera.

Ive found suitable balloons and where to get helium from. Next is keeping track of it, and since I dont have 20 miles or so of string, a GPS tracker it is. This seems like its going to be the most expensive part so far so any good links to cheaper trackers would be great.

Problems so far:

1. 30 min record time, Ive read the ascent can take 2 hours, so several cameras on delay circuits may be needed.
2. The above will add weight and so a bigger balloon needed, adding to the cost.
3. How will the batteries perform under cold temperatures.

Plus many more...

But I like a challenge and ive been looking for a new project. Its looking like this initial £9 camera might cost me abit more lol.

If you're planning to go all the way why not start simple, a long piece of string and a helium balloon would be good enough to see your house from way above and you'll get good images in no time, you could even do multiple runs with the camera at different angles like looking toward the horizon, i think going to all the trouble of gps stuff is missing the fun of just quickly seeing your house and local area from above.

Good idea Radiation, even attaching it to a kite could work if you have the room to fly one nearby, you don't even need helium or balloons for that.

Anyone know where to get the drivers online ?

plugged mine into the PC and orange light comes on, but nothing in windows. I got a driver error from windows the first time but now it does nothing.

Windows 7 x64
