Mister FPGA

Thanks

I've already got a USB OTG Adapter and Hub, what other benefits does the IO board bring? I'll be using it over HDMI.

I'll grab a 128MB SDRAM then :)
Gives some buttons on top to control menu etc. Also you can connect to older monitors / TVs that don't support HDMI. Quite cool these can actually be played on CRTs :)

I believe it also has a SNAC port for adapters to connect original hardware controllers (there are potential latency issues that have been picked up recently though).

lord as much as I'd love one I can't justify 229 on just the main board right now :(

but damn I'm still tempted lol
I was the same but as they’ve been out of stock for so long, when I got the email to say they were back in stock again, I jumped at the chance lol

I’ve got a Amiga 600, Spectrum ZX and Raspberry Pi 3 with SCART Adapter to sell to help recover my costs!

I mean I do have 4 n64s, 2 Gamecubes and about 5 mega drives I could part with lol

Can anyone recommend where to buy the expansion boards and accessories etc AliExpress seems loads cheaper but I’m concerned about the quality :-/

Misterfpga.co.uk is where I got mine. Found them a bit slow to dispatch, but Nathan who runs it is highly regarded.

I got all my parts from Misterfpga.co.uk to and no problems.

There was a recent update for Composite and Svideo with a simple adapter.

There was talk of a project starting to bring Mister to cheaper fpgas but cant remember what the status of it was.

I need to pick one of these up soon :)

Why would you go for one of them over a VGA to RGB SCART? Or does mean you don’t need the added expense of the Analog IO board? :-/
Some CRT TVs especially in USA only have S Video and Composite connections. So the adapter would benefit those without RGB scart. Still needs an Analogue IO board :).

Edit: Also, a lot argue that Composite is the way these games were meant to be played due to how dithering blends to make these older games look better (waterfall in Sonic 1 being transparent is a good example). RGB is nice for sharp pixels, colour and a superior connection, but most were probably using Composite or worse, so may also carry nostalgia benefits.

So the DE10-NANO arrives tomorrow and I’ve just ordered 128MB SDRAM and a copper heat sink for it that should arrive Tuesday!

I didn’t bother with either of the IO Boards in the end from the research I’ve done. I can use Direct Video to hook up to my CRT and building my own DaemonBite USB adapter should be better than using a SNAC

Also from what I can tell the power supply that comes with the DE10 should be good enough, if I start having issues I’ll grab a 4A one.

Let us know how you get on Zaf.

you will want an inline power switch - i got one off ebay that has a little rocker switch that converts one into two which looks much neater than the light style switches that are more common.
Is this to help prevent SD card corruption or are you at risk of damaging the board by just unplugging it?
