Mitsubishi Evo 6 worth buying ???

I got quoted about £4000 to get mine resprayed. And that was from a very reputable place. £5500 is ridiculous unless you're planning on a colour change and need to remove the engine etc.

it's expensive because the whole car has to stripped back.....plus everything removed, 2 weeks labour, it's a hell of a lot of work

So you're disgarding one car because it has a BOV and a TT but looking at one with a 2.3 stroker kit?

I see...Personally i would avoid someone elses project. Its just too much, a few choice mods sure. Fully modded and waiting to blow up? err..

no these aren't the same cars as the ones with the silly mods that you get on Ebay, these guys are genuinely proud of their cars and maintain them well... but i see what you're saying

whats happening ?????

well, my m8 at work ( ex car mechanic) saw the original EVO 6, the 4 Star car, he said it was in excellent condition and well cared for, but it had no service history from Japan. He then said `` i wouldn't buy it without a full service history`` ..... but he was shocked to see how good it looked !

i'm waiting to hear from two other sellers.... one of these is an Evo X, but to be honest it's not looking good, the biggest problem is all these cars are too far away to view..

i will never buy an Evo from the Isle of Mann without a valid MOT, he refused to get his car MOTd for the U.K (they dont need a British style MOT over there), he told me that was my job....... I couldn't even be bothered to answer him, what a W*****

i cant post in on that forum anymore...... because your max postings are 20 and after that you have to pay an additional £35 subscription for a year only .....daylight robbery

i've sent 4Star another email, i'm going to take another look at the Evo and give it a test drive, and here's his reply

Hello Malcolm,

There is no service record I'm afraid.

We have sold many vehicles from Japan so I am talking from experience and generally the paperwork is not always as complete as you would expect from a European car. Although they are often in better condition. Both the Tommi Macs we recently sold also had very little service history.

You are of course more than welcome to test drive the car.

Kind regards

see what i mean, it's all pie in the sky, ok i'll view it again thursday

i've chosen a car, it's the 530HP one, but i'll only buy it after i've seen it..

this other one, although looking fantastic............ is just too suspicious..

in fact, the one i've chosen looks almost as good, but has a full service history and is regularly maintained to a high standard.....we'll see.

this car scares the crap out of me so there's no way i'm driving it home from up North so it'll have to be delivered

not driving home !!! no way man, i'll either kill myself or end up in Glasgow, this car will need to be got home safely and then driven close to home until i get used to it.

i'm going to wait a day, let myself calm down and take time to think this through carefully, he knows i've just told him.

Thats the one i was looking at. Seems nice. Colour is good too! More resale than the red

yes, it's a thousand quid more than the monster Evo and it looks like it's in perfect condition.

there's a Stage 2 kit for it that'll take it up to 400HP, this car isn't popular with the guys because it's Auto and not regarded as a ``true Evo``

here's a photo of the 530HP Evo with the original gold wheels, this car has a far better paintjob than the 4Star Evo i saw

i prefer the look of this car, it's a classic, but the Evo X is more ``sensible``, this is going to be a hard decision to make

I would not get a DKR evo X. It's the most common colour and the 300 sst is slow. There was one at an OCUK RR day a couple of years ago and I think it made about 280bhp. Couple that with the fact it's 200Kg heavier than that evo 5 and you can guess just how slow it will be.
Also. You can't really push the power on them as the SST box can't take as much torque as the manual (without spending a fair amount of money on it).

With regards to the 530bhp one. It will be fine to drive. Just drive it like any other car. It's not like it's going to be 0 bhp - 530bhp in an instant. You'll soon get used to all the power.

thanks M8 i appreciate that, i'm just worried about the roads and getting lost that's all, but it does have Sat Nav.
...........that is if i can borrow the money and i'm not sure it's a wise thing to do anyway, the repayments are huge and there's other things i want this year too....another TV to start !!!!!

the trouble with a showroom is they dont answer your questions fully, dont know enough about its history and keep their answers brief, all they want is get rid of the car without revealing too much. i dont trust fresh imports either...not anymore.

you're looking for someone that's a genuine Evo fan and the price is right.

edit:- i'm seeing the yellow Evo 5 tomorrow ;)

OP has surely realised that a bank loan for a heavily modded Evo isn't the greatest idea? You must know how often these let go once the lump is pushed so hard?

yes, i wont buy a heavily modded Evo, i'm going to see this one tomorrow and if it's no good, then i'm not going to bother any more

this car is for weekend fun only and i doubt i'll be able to drive it that crazy anyway, there's too many police around.
