Monaco Grand Prix 2011, Monte-Carlo - Race 6/19

Which is exactly why Monaco sucks as a race track now - what's the point in a race where you can only overtake if the guy in front pretty much lets you?

Yeah, i mean last year Alonso couldn't stop hitting for when he climbed the 18 places he did last year, it's so obviously the circuit.

And how many overtakes did Alonso actually do on the track at Monaco in 2010?

Likely more than Hamilton did today.

Hamilton crashed into 3 people that we can name today and climbed 3 places, and he is moaning, yet Kobyashi and Sutil climbed many more than him and where not bashing into folk like Schumaker on a Turkish holiday!

Hell Kobyashi started behind Hamilton, and finished in front of him!

Poor Lewis though.

Hamiltons totally lost his rag and cool today, trying crazy moves on everyone.

This is why I just don't like him. Utterly disgraceful driving from him today. The only decent move he made was on Schumacher into Ste Devote, everything else he tried he just rammed into the side of everyone and he's got the balls to whinge about the Stewards? You need to learn to overtake without being reckless my friend.

All in all a good race, shame we didn't really get the finish we all wanted but it was decent enough. Lots of people saying it was the best race ever - I think the Chinese GP was better, imo.

Ah, Hamilton got a time penalty, that's fair. Ram someone into the barrier and effectively get off scot-free, logical.

How, it was a false outcome

You mean last year when he did the whole race after a single pit stop on lap one and just leapfrogged everyone bar the backmarkers when they had to pit later?

So no real overtaking apart from against cars pretty much powerless to stop him?

Yeah ok.

I really enjoyed the race today despite the actual outcome to my liking (Poor Williams and Jenson Button, no good fortune) and drivers having to go to hospital again :( The red flag was needed as the lap behind the safety car they had to slow up so much with many people on track. You could see it was all going to kick off with that many cars close up and then the 3 leaders just about to lap some of the other usual front runners!

Like everyone I think I feel a bit robbed or the build up and excitement of the end due to everyone getting fresh rubber but those are the rules. Vettel may well of held on anyway but it would have been really something to watch! Certainly it could have been one of the great races to the flag rather than just a good race till the accident.

Formula 1 is the top motorsport with he best drivers in the world but they had more dust ups in this race than a BTCC race. Maybe it is time to get some nudge bars or bumpers to allow for a bit more contact if that is how they are to race. Lewis Hamilton was driving like Matt Neal going for super late lunges into closing gaps however unlike in touring cars or on a normal track the other guy goes out or you both get a load of damage. He was right over the kerbs (off track) on Massa at the hairpin (not sure what happened after just Massa going off wide?), and the move on Maldonado was very very late, to me he din't seem inside until Maldonado was turned in. It is gutsy and great to watch and maybe if we were at a normal track he would have got away with it but putting cars into the barrier is not right. To be fair on Hamilton he wasn't the only one, just the one nearest the front. Kobayashi ran into Sutil, Di Resta was just to aggressive and Alguersuari was stupid or distracted when he hit Hamilton.

Lewis messed up today, even I will admit that. It's the stupid track I've got issue with, when was the last time we had two drivers in the medical centre within two days? It's not Sutible for modern f1.

Disappointed by 2nd safety car and red flag, I was looking forward to seeing if Vettel could some how hold those tyres to the end.

As much as I like Hamilton's do or die attitude he should be given a 10 place grid drop next race, he's driving like a lunatic at the moment and not only ruined his own race but at least 2 other drivers.

People are being a bit over critical of Hamilton IMO, i'm no fan of the guy but its pretty clear to see the other drivers did little to help themselves.
I'll just quote Senna "And if you no longer go for a gap that exists, you are no longer a racing driver"
I applaud the guy for having the balls to try but agree his attitude did stink after the race.

Pretty sure i heard Brundle say there was only 3 overtakes last year.

Monaco is a great spectacle but its no great racing venue for today's cars.

I like this new dark side of Hamilton. It's great. He's hardly any different to how Senna was, though Senna did have a better way with words :p

I'm sure people will talk better of Hamilton in 20 years, there were plenty of people who thought Senna was a **** at the time too :)

Same as MS, most people have put away their grudges against him and recognise despite his dubious actions, he holds most records.

Nice guys just don't win big, unless they have an amazing car.
