Monaco Grand Prix 2012, Monte Carlo - Race 6/20

Mr Men; I don't think those statistics show JB is being 'thrashed' by LH. Over a single fastest lap in quali maybe, but there's more to F1 than a single fast lap on a Saturday.

You're selectively ignoring the stat that shows on race day, there's less than a gnats pube between them — if you really want to base it on a single lap time, why are you ignoring the fastest in-race lap?

Other than his pole today when's this been happening?? Did someone not tell Ross Brawn?? He could have done with knowing about it before last Friday when he said MS needs to improve his results..... Otherwise Ross as made a bit of a fool of himself there!

http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/formula1/18204882

he didnt say ms needs to improve reuslts he said mercedes has let schumacher down and then later went back on his words and said merc and ms needs to improve which was probbaly PR speak.

bensons a **** though and wont post what really happened as he hates schumacher

heres what brawn said before PR talk took over

Lewis is currently dominating Jenson, saying otherwise is just being stupid.

So by the same token you will accept that Alonso is currently dominating Massa?

Isn't that what all of this was about in the first place? I can't even remember what you and Glaucus were arguing about now.

Off course Alonso is dominating Massa as anyone would expect. Point being Massa being dominated by Massa gets this place into a frenzy, yet Jenson being dominated is brushed under the carpet and excuses made.

Ok, I understand now.

I think it's your definition of 'dominated'.

Hamilton is definitely beating Button but I think 'dominating' is a bit strong.

If Hamilton is 'dominating' Button then Alonso is waging full-on nuclear war on Massa.

The results as a whole (not just qualifying times) show that Button is closer to Hamilton than Massa is to Alonso, even if Button is getting beaten fair and square, which no one is denying.

^ I agree. Dominating is a bit of a strong word.

I think what's happening this year is what people expected to happen in 2010, ie. Button 0.5s back from Hamilton in Quali, and similar race pace. The only reason it's being touted now that Button is being beaten so badly, is because he was so good last year comparatively.

Whether that was due to him raising his game, or Hamilton losing his... I'd personally say the latter.

Nice work there.

If you get the time, it would be nice to see a comparison between Vettel and Webber this year.

Its not really fair to compare 2 drivers with different cars as there are too many other variables which the stats cannot take into account.

Comparisons between 2 drivers, driving equal equipment are (more) valid.

Indeed.

But people must also consider that drivers go through good and bad form.
I personally think that Vettel and Button haven't hit top form, while their team-mates have entered the season at their best.

I fully expect Button to improve by a few percentage points and the same goes for Vettel.

By the end of the season, we shall have a better idea (which sucks, because nobody wants to wait 6 months).

Lets do some fun predictions for tomorrow's race:
1. Alonso (Ferrari have given him a car which can win in Monaco and he has no excuses)
2. Hamilton
3. Kimi or Webber

So lets hear it gents, whose gonna win tomorrow?

He has 8 points more than him in the WDC.. hardly being dominated!

Ah back to the points, which tells another story, like the messed up stops for Lewis, the wrong fuel going in the car, but if you think the points show Jenson to be qualifying and racing better than Lewis then so be it :)

Hamilton, alonso, webber for me. Hamilton is due a win.

You also feel merc will fade? I bet they don't last long on the first stint.

With tyres fading at different rate and the fact overtaking is possible a lot of people might push all the way to the cliff and maintain track position, people behind will HAVE to make a risky over take, pile up ensues! That's how I think it could play out! I think it could be fairly incident packed gp!

Most of me loves the tyre situation. As long as it isn't completely random, which I can't be, I think us spectators are too quick to say the tyres behave randomly when the pattern is just more difficult than usual, but for sure if someone cracks it, they will have the season if the others didn't copy it! It's not all about tyres, but it is a huge factor! Much better than a tyre war IMO

No idea what will happen tbh, it has been so random, but it certainly seems like an exciting prospect :)

No one, not one single person, is suggesting that Button is racing better than Lewis.

What they are saying is that the gap between Button and Hamilton is less than the gap between Massa and Alonso.

Why have you also completely ignored the comments about the definition of 'dominating'?

sunama, just for you:

Webber's sum best qualifying is 0.476 seconds faster than Vettel (or 0.079 average per qualifying session).

However;

Vettel's sum fastest laps are 0.732 seconds faster than Webber (or 0.146 average per race).

They keep swapping places which suggests they are both really close.

I do like the way some teams are better at quali (tending to wear out of the tyres but a good qualifying position) and others are good at the race (less out of tyres on a single quali lap but a more competitive race) it really muddles up the grid in a fair and non artificial way. I do think with the tyres how they are they don't need the rule of quali 3 tyres tyres go into the race
