This race certainly had some dramas, and I found it pretty exciting. I was confused by the delayed start, but apparently that was an electrical issue at the circuit.
Alonso vs Hamilton just proves how bad this place is for over-taking. I won't miss it if they don't sign a new deal, I'd rather see a proper race track.
Indeed, from the drama of the start to Alonso's tactical driving, which Lewis conveniently forgot he's done in the past as well.
Yes the power went off in race control...

Monaco is loved by people who want to go it seems but most fans want it gone.

All the commentators etc love it. I bet they do! I'd want it to stay if I got paid to go every year!

Apart from a rare event like this it's mostly absolute garbage. You can be seconds a lap slower and the guy behind can do nothing!

Traditionally I have defended Monaco, but I think it's time has gone.

The race was made mildly more interesting than normal due to the weather, and some unusual happenings. I have always said that it's just part of the challenge of F1, having different types of races, and Monaco is just the extreme at the end of the spectrum, and a race you have to win on Sat.

It's time to end it. Keep running the historic cars there sure, but I suspect that will end without the backing of F1 to help with the justification of converting the whole place into a race track.

For a monaco grand prix it was pretty good. However, that was only because of the rain/accidents.

If it was dry and had no crashes, it is clear it would have likely been a complete procession. As long as you get a good exit into the tunnel and onto the start/finish straight , no one has a hope of passing you in the dry. I think its even worse now that the cars are so massive.

I'm indifferent as to whether it stays on the calendar really. Some other tracks aren't that much better for overtaking. It's still exciting to watch them go round mms away from the walls.

What's the main reason for cars being this long? Lot of the tracks and racing in general would improve if the cars could be 1m shorter. Obviously there's the safety side to it but perhaps it's time to make plans for making cars shorter in next rule overhaul.

How was Alonso's driving unsafe?

It wasn't.
Alonso was definitely playing silly ******

He's always been a bit of a **** though.

Alonso was just running his own race, and saving his tyres.

Not sure why some on here are crying over it

I'm not convinced at all that 'most fans' want it gone, where's your proof, aside from the armchair fans in here? I bet the tens of thousands who were there, the drivers, the commentators the tv companies and celebrities all want it to be retained vastly outnumbering those who don't.

Quite, Lewis has done the exact same thing in the past as has all the drivers, hey guys it's called TACTICS, ever heard of that? I think people are crying because it happened to Lewis...

It also stopped Ocon from being able to build a gap and keep some points. That image from before is very clear, Alonso created an "Alonso train" for almost 1hrs worth of driving after the red flag and 75% of the grid were nose to tail at the back. It was clear how much pace he had in hand when his team finally realised they were screwing Ocon out of points and told him to hurry up (and he promptly got fastest lap).

Ok own up who did the rain dance?
Watched highlights and didn’t get excited at all
Says something top 4 literally nose-to-tail through half the corners but couldn’t pass.

Also, who at Red Bull is paying off the stewards?!
Very very tenuous IMO why they weren’t penalised. Defeats entire object of race directors notes and I’m sure many people in the past have had penalties even cutting the very tip.

I've personally never seen a more disliked race by fans. You can see it all over discussion boards.

Anyone who goes I'm sure loves it. That's the problem with Monaco it's not the f1 itself. It's all the stuff around it.
And the vast majority of fans obviously don't get that

Voted 4/10. Like a chump I still watch it but it's always such a non-event you can really just tune in for the pitstops and you'll see all the overtakes.

Wanted a Charles win but I'll happily take a win for Checo too. I would've been happy with a Carlos win as well.

I hope we don't come back.

Alonso is fairly clever in my opinion, he made a mockery of the race, to show it's not a race and you can dawdle round and not be able to pass - he's shown that now, and educated those not really into F1, it's helped removing it from the calendar. Sure its a nice party weekend if you're there, but, not a good race.

I assume there is no other streets or area of the city they can add to make the track longer with passing places?

I figure from 7th place, why not risk it?

If we are talking about risks, surely it would have been better to risk slicks early/wait a bit longer to go straight to slicks?

What they did was probably the worst thing they could have done. I think Merc still think Hamilton is in the lead of these races or something. Their strategy for him has been weird all season.

@cuke2u of course if I was paid or well off enough to go I would love it to stay,

not sure about this though

How many are watching on TV across the world ?? less ? but yeah I get it money talks

However it is a sport, not something 'engineered' for a tv spectacle. This is the real issue with F1, it is slowly moving away from it's roots and just becoming no more than entertainment..
Anyway you may have your wish as this might be the last f1 race we'll see there as there is no contract for next year and beyond because the FIA want to take over more control of the event even to the point of tweaking the track, which Monaco has resisted..
