Monzo/Starling Banking/Revolut

I like to stick to the well know 'High Street' banks...

Revolut let a mega amount of dubious transactions go through on that guys account without questioning them!! Thats something 'normal' banks would have queried straight away!

I'd use Monzo as my main bank but I get cashback through Chase. It doesn't work out to allot but at least it's something. Use Monzo if any of the cashback offers are what I'd be buying anyway (mainly supermarket shop)

Yup

For all that I may at times moan about the likes of Barclays sending out sms confirmations, and locking my card until I've confirmed transactions, I'd much rather that than the account be emptied because for whatever reason the automated anti fraud checks aren't defaulting to "stop" when unusual activity is detected.

I saw that. Wasn't sure what to believe. I did have a look at Revolut though as their multicurrency account sounds awesome but they don't support sole traders unfortunately.

They do, there's Revolut Pro which is an account aimed at freelancers and sole traders. It's on their private accounts side rather than the business account app. https://www.revolut.com/revolut-pro/

Ah, I see. The difference confused me. Thank you!

I got an Starling Customer Support message yesterday (in the app so I know it's genuine) stating - with no explanation given, I noted - that from 10 Feb 2025 they will no longer pay interest on personal or joint current accounts. WTAF?!
My wife even responded and it was confirmed by one of their reps who suggested that we might be eligible for a savings account. Woop de doo.
It might be time to try one of the others, I think.
I'm happy with Starting but just to suddenly decide that they're not paying interest is ridiculous.

Seems to coincide with the imminent launch of their savings space. To get interest now means actively putting money in the space.

Not really an issue for me as my savings go into a cash ISA and I only hold about £1k in my Starling savings pot.

TBF the savings thing sounds like it's instant access so basically the same thing as the pots/spaces as they are now.

Hmm, that is strange. I'd rather not open up another account as it'll get complicated.

I had the same for joint and personal accounts, noticed earlier in the week they had the pin at the top for an easy savings account coming soon - I only use it for bills so there's never a huge amount in there but can't complain about a few quid a month for nothing.

Got the same message, thought it was quite strange that they didn't just send a normal email about it.

I considered using Monzo as my main bank, I use it the odd time a relevant cashback offer comes up for supermarkets I use but that's it. I also use it as the go between for money transfers as my main bank (Chase) isn't listed.

But Chase still do 1%, on all purchases, it's not much but does add up to a few quid at the end of month.

I was happy to keep a rolling 5K balance in my Starling current account as I knew I was getting 3.25% on it. It's going to be a bit of a pita having to keep moving cash from the new savings space when it's rolled out.

Is that chase 1% still going? I stopped using chase once that offer was up but I could return as it all added up quickly.

Yeah as long as you deposit in £1500 per month , you can just transfer out to different account and back in

Maximum cashback per month is £15

That's quite decent really. Do they offer joint accounts yet? So much money goes through that account it would be stupid for us not to take advantage.

I really need to sort my Monzo account out. Still on the old Monzo Plus account but should probably move to one of the new offerings.

I’m waiting for the Chase credit card which is rolling out slowly. I’m using their current account for everyday spending, transferring money across each month but once their CC is available I’ll fully switch.

I’ve no need for Starling anymore now I’ve got Chase offering decent instant access savings and cash back (which is great when AMEX isn’t accepted). Of course all good things to come an end and I suspect it won’t be like this forever but that can be said for most things.

Didn't even know they had a CC coming, although I wouldn't use it if it doesn't have the same 1% cashback
