More PS3's sold than the 360 in Europe

this is it really. they killed the format through a combination of hardware costs and lack of actual media. if say, sacd had been released now, the hardware wouldnt have been a problem. they'd already have millions of players in homes. they'd only have to produce the media. its a bit of a shame really. Apparently, i think everybody needs it and i think SACD's sell consoles. what i actually said was the consoles could have sold the sacds, bit of a difference.

but still, im to close-minded to see the possibilities.

your points are always interesting - no matter what anyone else says (I dont always agree, but life would be too boring if everyone agreed :))

I dont think Sony had a choice, SACD HAD to be released when it was originally, otherwise DVD-A would have had a free marketplace (instead of killing off each other and confusing 90% of people)

The other problem is that nowadays people arent that interested in phyisical media for audio (everytime I walk into a hmv or whatever there are always significantly more people in the video department than the audio) - of course this doesnt account for online purchases but I would be surprised if it was significantly different (downloads compared to physical delivery) - this is just my experience , whether this is shown worldwide is another matter :D

I would have loved to experience a few of my favourite albums on SACD (Brothers in Arms especially is meant to be incredible) and I just think if Sony had tried to re-start SACD alongside the PS3 and blu-ray it would have asked for even more trouble (not counting the original price of the PS3, which was an issue in itself - the version of br and limited capability compared to HD-DVD at original release etc etc)

I think we can agree to disagree - but hey at least the PS3 is selling well now :D

To be fair, the dates are different on that chart.... also take into consideration that the USA, Japan and Europe arent the entire world either

haha im not disagreeing with what you say, only that they had a chance to try again. brothers in arms is very good yes. i got bored last night and ordered MJ's Thriller SACD for the awful price of....£8.99. i got Mozart's 38-41 symphonies but thats not going to interest many people at all lol:p

ebay or somewhere?

lol if im wrong then shoot me. i cant see things getting much better at all really.

look at games from about a year or two after ps2s release

then look at god of war , black , even GT4 etc

with sony not planning on bringing a new console out for many year then the devs will be forced into working on things to help them make better games on ps3

I think if people look at games like Shadow of the Collossus, Black, God of War etc... then you can see just how possible it is for developers to get more out of consoles, they learn the shortcuts, new features are added to consoles and new methods of data handling evolve.

possibly not so much for the 360 as it's supposed to be fairly easy for devs to get the max out of the system early on, but I would imagine that with the PS3 they would have quite a learning curve.

It's difficult to see where we lay in terms of how devs have got to grips so far though as you have studios like Naughty Dog saying they only used 20% of the cells power for Uncharted but then Konami say they have used 100% for MGS4 - quite a big leap so early in the consoles lifespan

For any console Joebob. The PS3 does have a bigger learning curve so there is more likely more to come from learning 'tricks of the trade' so to say, but it's the same case with Xbox360, it may not be as much of a curve, but there are always shortcuts to be made to achieve better things.

I wouldn't believe Naughty Dog/Sony with either statement to be honest, they knew Uncharted was an awesome looking game, so to state 20% is almost like a swipe at the competition, then for it's big title, MGS4, to say it's running at 100% is like a swipe to say 'look, we have harnessed the power of PS3, be prepared'.

I wouldn't say either figure should be taken seriously.
