Most of what you believe about a healthy diet is probably not true.

It is all in the genetics in the end. If your family have a history of problems do what you can to supplement it. If your families all live into their 90's go for it.

My grandad on both sides lived into their 90's. Both brought up on bread and dripping and both smoked for large portions of their life.

Pretty much, but Grandad worked down the pit on the face, smoked woodbines, drank mild and popped his clogs in his 60s, Gran went well on into her 80s and ate like a trooper.

This is new on any fads or "proper" diets that I've noticed in the past.

Who's agenda is pushing that one?? People that can't afford to eat? The poor? Is it a drive to make the population skinnier? Probably worth it lol.

Or is fasting the time between my breakfast and lunch, if I have it, dinner..?
I'm not eating, therefore I'm fasting.

Last time I spoke to a dietary professional at work, ( i seriously can't remember the English words for it, help)
They say people should eat little but often.....

Oh well.

A low calorie diet with periods of starvation increases lifespan in some animals. It's untested in humans, of course. Not enough time has passed to do such a test and there would be ethical considerations in abundance.
 
So would something like Flora margarine be bad for you or worse off than butter?

Read the ingredients and then come to a decision.

Not sure why people aren't interested in what they consume, it seems crazy to me.

margarine ingredients:

Plant oils (rapeseed, palm*, sunflower 3%, linseed), water, salt 1.35%, plant-based emulsifier (sunflower lecithin), fava bean protein, natural flavourings, vitamins A and D.


Butter ingredients:

Cream.

I know what I'd rather use.

High sugar/carbohydrate intake also factor quite highly in heart disease risk.

Around 2008, for 9 years, I was competing in many marathons/half marathons and all the training that went with it.
A friend suggested I go for a diabetes test because he had 'noticed things about me'.
I argued with the GP saying how the hell can I be diabetic when I did a half marathon at the weekend and a full marathon the week before.
He asked what I ate to train and of course it was all high carbs and I'm still suffering because of it.
 
Most diet stuff you read in the media is wrong/terrible objectively, and will be seen as subjectively wrong by whatever diet cult people belong to. Studies are often either lied about, interpreted wrong or the actual study itself was extremely poor.

Most diet stuff you read online is also wrong/terrible and seeks to either convert or re-affirm people to whatever diet cult it is plugging by whatever cult(s) of personality is pushing it.

The evidence-based community is rather niche and what constitutes healthy eating is rather obvious and boring. Most of the content usually revolves around having to debunk the above.

Yeah, most modern diet stuff is crap. As a general rule, anything which would have been available to us naturally before everything became processed is probably not bad for you (in moderation), because it's what our bodies were designed to live on. Of course, you can't make money telling people that so they come up with all sorts of crazy new fads to sell to people who are unable to see through it. I used to read a lot of nutritional advice but stopped because at some point you realise that they're always just trying to sell you something new, and after a while everything you read contradicts something else you read.
Regarding animal vs veg fat, I watched a YT vid a while ago which said that the ones which are bad for you are the ones which oxidise easily. IIRC certain seed oils are the main offenders. They're also the ones which involve the most intensive extraction processes, which ties in with what I said about stuff that occurs naturally.
