Motorsport Off Topic Thread

I think its simply the fact that any top driver is always going to have an eye out for spaces at other top teams. Its how you keep your team working hard to keep you. And its how you keep your options open should things go wrong.

I think its impossible to think that Hamilton has not at least mentioned to Horner to give him a call when Webber retires.

I would love to see Hamilton in a Red Bull. It would suit him well, give McLaren the kick up the but they need, and also allow Button to be outright team leader there.

I can see Lewis at Red Bull, how he and Vettel would get on I'm not sure but would be very interesting. Would be suprised to see him going to Ferrari at the moment. The Ferrari isn't good enough and then there is the Alonso factor.

I reckon Schumacher will have a good year this year, a few podiums, possibly a win and then extend his contract until the end of 2014 when he will then retire for good. Vettel will then join Mercedes Team Germany, Hamilton will go replace him at RBR.

Who's your bet to replace Webber? I can't see him still being here in 2014.

If there is even a hint that Hamilton might move then RBR would definitely go for him over Ricciardo or Vergne.

Personally, I would like to see it happen. Shake things up a bit.

I would equally like to see McLaren get back to the top with a big Button vs. Hamilton battle and either Vergne or Ricciardo get an RBR seat.

Basically, a bunch of guys in a bunch of teams battling it out at the front would be ideal :D

Why do people keep thinking RBR would be even interested in Hamilton should he approach them? They have a driver right now on the very top of his game in the best car. Why would they bring in a second driver to potentially throw vettel off his game and risk missing a title. RBR don't particulary care who wins the driver's title as long as it's done in a Red Bull. The situation they have right now is perfect. Vettel can pick up the lion's share of the pts for both titles and Webber can help out with some decent results now and again. When Webber leaves I believe they will look for a relationship between their two drivers similar to this.

Like I said, naive.

Why would a team settle for one of the best chances for the title and 'some other guy' when they could have 2 of the best chances? I think people get to caught up with the whole Senna/Prost thing, or this idea that 2 top drivers will put each other off. If you had the option to have 2 of the top 3 or 4 drivers on the grid in your team, why would you ignore them? I'm even willing to bet the reason RBR are keeping Webber on with 1 year contracts is because they are waiting for someone at the top to appear on the market. There's nobody better about, so keep him, but have him on a short contract so they can easily snap up someone else.

What, like 2010 :p

I was thinking of the many, many, many years before when we've seen that sort of thing....

tummelv - why the hell wouldn't RBR want Hamilton? Alright, so he's a moody little sod that needs rather too much coddling for someone with that kind of talent. And his tyre management leaves a lot to be desired. And he's utterly useless at adapting race tactics when things are changing rapidly. And he's still no good, even after all the practice he's had, at dealing with ******* journalists.

But he's still one of the fastest drivers out there. And that's all that matters at the end of the day.
