Why does that make them a joke team for hiring her?

because its the type of publicity move that should be left to the back end teams desperate for sponsorship money
whats wrong with all the other drivers in DTM that beat her week in week out?

the odds are she wont ever drive an f1 car unless its for a sponsor filming day

Oops I editted my post also^

Absolutely publicity, but Williams are a struggling team. And are probably desperate for sponsorship as you say, ahem, PDVSA...

It is a sad state of affairs for them in recent years, but whatever it takes, maybe?

After all they've gone from being one of the teams with the highest developmental budgets in the 90s to way way down now, I dare say Toro Rosso have more to spend than them.

better to struggle in silence than tell all the potential sponsors your still on a slippery slope to the back of the grid?

doesnt do much for getting any "real" female f1 drivers in the sport either, its a bit of a slap in the face surely? especially bernies stupid 1960s comment

Ha, Bernie never fails to amuse. No it probably doesn't help the development of real female f1 drivers- speaking of which, the most prolific female of recent times has to be Danica Patrick, who I believe is now truck racing or NASCAR or something- wasn't she being lined up for an F1 seat some time ago? And she has to be way better than our dear old Karthikeyan even now...

There have been female drivers in F1 since the 50s (one of them even competed at the old 14km Spa circuit). Not that many, but they existed. The best example is probably Lella Lombardi, who did impressive things with sub-par machinery in the 70s.

It's true that the modern era hasn't seen any worthwhile ones though (just one F3000 midfielder who didn't qualify the 1992 Brabham, and failed to turn up the sponsorship that the contract was conditional on).

Danica Patrick the one driver I despise more than any other. She didn't make it to F1 because she is complete and utter dog ****. Not even being a women and having financial backing could paper over the fact she is ****. :D

Don't forget that DTM cars are not equal. Stoddart has never raced in an up-to-date spec car. Compared with the people in the same spec car as her she has normally finished the season on a similar level.

same for karthikayan i cant even spell his name

Not sure why you're brining Kathikeyan in to this? But I don't see how he compares, as he's been beaten by pretty much every team mate he's ever had.

and shes done what in her glorious racing carrer? she shouldnt be in gp2 nevermind anywhere near an car f1 based on her racing history

Being an F1 test driver doesn't mean you have to be any good...

*cough* Badoer *cough*

The path into an F1 race seat by being a test driver for the team just doesn't exist any more. She will be a resource for simulator work and maybe the odd straight line test. She is far more valuable as a PR asset than a racing driver.

Speaking of fires, they recreated the Lauda crash at the 'Ring the other day for Rush.

I'm actually looking forward to Rush, as it was way before my time so it will be a new story to me. I just hope it comes out good. There is massive potential for it to be a bit rubbish, especially after Senna set the bar so high.

Bring back Diniz tbh.

He wasn't all that bad for a paydriver actually. :p Banked some points, including at the monsoons of Spain 96 and Spa 98. Just lacked outright pace (when he was teamed with Mika Salo in the 2000 Sauber, Mika was saying that it was the pitstops where Diniz lost time according to the telemetry).
