Seen a few of the GP2 drivers going onto the painted area on the first part of Parabolica. Wouldn't be doing that if it was grass and gravel.

Must be an advantage to doing that, otherwise they wouldn't do it.

Will be interesting to see what they do in the F1 cars when they turn the engines up in FP3 and quali.

It's an advantage in that it's a get-out-of-jail-free card, but it's not as grippy out there (as was proven today), so the only advantage is the potential for opening the steering and carrying less resistance through to the straight.

They're not getting a direct advantage of merely carrying more speed as it's not a normal corner (they brake on entry, blend the throttle towards the imaginary apex, then they're almost immediately on near full throttle).

While it might be advantageous, it carries a relatively large risk of losing speed. It's a bit like the old La Source (stay tight and tidy or run wide and open up the corner at the risk of a loss of traction).

I hope they just let it roll personally, and given the number of 'indiscretions' today I think they've been told it's OK.

Old video, but I just got linked to it by YT suggestions. All I can think of is that this is what Hamilton must have been shouting in his helmet during the race :D

Also, Santander Chairman Emilio Botin passed this morning.

As a Ferrari fan the last 5 years have been painful to watch. The amount of changes this year means I'm not expecting miracles next season, in all likelihood any 'benefit' from the restructuring probably won't be realised for a few years.

When they signed Kimi I said it would mean heads will roll if they then failed to win a championship. I was expecting Stefano to get the chop, although not as quickly as he did, and I didn't think it would go as high as Luca. But if you bring in 2 WDCs and then build not only a dog of a car (again), but also an underperforming engine you can't help but feel this was inevitable.

Sad times for Ferrari and F1. As much as I love to hate on Ferrari, F1 is better with them at the front rather than struggling to keep their head above the midfield.

They've tried changing pretty much everything else (although removing Stefano hasn't had sufficient time to make a difference yet) so this was the only thing left.

Ferrari have been down before. Hell, Ferrari have fallen really far before - 113 points and 1st in the WCC for 1979, 8 points and 10th in the 1980 season.

They'll be fighting up at the front again. Might not be for a few seasons, but it'll happen.

Not a Ferrari fan but I do hope that they get their act together a put a decent car together... Think Alonso deserves the chance to challenge for at least another title or 2 before he retires

I'd be more worried about how Ferrari's road cars will fare over the coming years.

LdM's reign saw a huge turnaround in quality road cars being produced. F1 wise he also presided over the Schui dominance.

Holy moly

Glad he was ok. Radicals could do with the little anti-flip plates that NASCARs have to stop them lifting when travelling backwards in a crash.

F1 Teams reject Customer Car plans again.

I do have to laugh at the way the FIA tried to sneak this in. Apparently all they did was remove the word "monocoque" from the proposed regulations in the list of parts a team must make, and then submit to the teams for approval! Amazing that removing a single word from the regulations would have such a massive effect on the sport.

I'm a bit on the fence on the whole idea tbh. I get that customer cars would help smaller teams afford to race, but with the rapid pace of development and year on year rule changes I don't think it would work in F1 these days. Would a customer team get all the upgrades the manufacturer puts on the car throughout the year? Or would they get a pre season testing specification car and be stuck with it the whole year? Aparently HRT were the first team in F1 history to run an entire season without applying a single upgrade to their chassis! Would you want half the grid effectively "locked" into a sinngle spec while the other half upgraded every race? The only way it would work is if the chassis manufacturers were not associated with any team, and so every team on the grid was a customer of a manufacturer, all getting the developments and upgrades. Much like the way LMP2 and most of GT work in endurance racing.
