No surprise, did he actually do anything?

This new guy looks like the coolest of cool Italian sugardaddies. Best hair in the paddock :p

Wasn't the report/talk that when him and Alonso sat down and Alonso was thinking of leaving he effectively said "Don't let the door hit you on the way out"?

If so that's something he achieved then, getting rid of arguably the best driver on the grid :p

It's got nothing to do with colour, there have been other black people win sports personality. I think that's a terrible article. Pop star girlfriend and celebrity lifestyle and then comparing him to beckham. Most people feel distanced from F1 because it's a sport where the best car wins. Beckham couldn't pull on a pair of boots that have him a 20% more ability than the rest of his peers. Lennox Lewis couldn't put on gloves that allowed him to hit 10% harder than anyone else and Linford Christie couldn't stick on spikes that made him faster (drugs is another issue :D but no one knew that at the time).

I think pedalling the black line in this day and age is just trying to gloss over the real issues he's not popular. Similar to reasons people might not like Alonso at his worst or Vettel. I was talking to a guy at work who got to meet Lewis and JB at Mclaren. He is a huge Lewis fan but said Lewis was devoid of any personality and awkward. Where JB was much more happy to talk and mingle with fans and sign autographs, joke around.

Is this any less popular than JB's title and he is white. JB was pretty damn hated on here. Even though his car was not as dominant we still get the lucky comments and anyone could win in that car. I think the excitement for JB's title in the media was also because of Brawn and the jobs it saved. A real turnaround. Where Lewis has won in a car that could have won the title if he'd started from the back every race.

Anyway, he has had good press from Moss ;)

Meanwhile, fellow Briton Sir Stirling Moss, widely regarded as the greatest driver never to win a world title, said Hamilton's performance made him a better driver than seven-time world champion Michael Schumacher.

"It was a wonderful result for the guy who deserved it," Moss told BBC Radio 5 live. "I'd put him above Schumacher. I mean Schumacher just happened to win a lot of titles, but he wasn't as quick." :D

The right man won the title, I have never warmed to him but it's got sod all to do with his colour.

Ultimately, Lewis deserves recognition because his success goes far beyond sport itself. But if he never gains national acceptance through the sports personality vote, it will say more about Britain than about him.

What utter drivel.

but Mo Farah didn’t even make the top three in the BBC awards in either 2012, when he was double Olympic champion,– or 2013, when he was double world champion.

Boohoo, he lost out to Wiggins, Ennis and Murray in a very tough year and Murray after winning Wimbledon in 2013.

In short I don't think his colour has anything to do with it ;)

"Rammed" out of the race at Spa. I stopped reading there. Utter drivel. And fwiw Damon Hill and Nigel 'the tash master' Mansell are more likeable.

I dont dislike Lewis, sometimes i like him but overall i find it hard to warm to him for some reason. I was named after my Dads favourite reggae producer who was black and come from a very tolerant upbringing as you could imagine so to read that colour has any credence is ludicrous to me.

Hes a bloody good driver but not someone i could imagine myself having a laugh with down the pub.

I started to see there was something about Hamilton back in the middle of 2007, after Monaco. You knew there was more going on behind the scenes, and it was very publicly blown up at the Hungaroring in Alonso's actions.

What annoyed me was he was painted as a goody-goody boy by the McLaren's PR department, who did a stunning job through 2007 and 2008, but if it wasn't clear before, it was proven at the Australian GP in 2009, when it became obvious he would happily break the rules to get a few more points, they got found out, he was disqualified and ultimately Dave Ryan lost his job.

I love watching Hamilton. He's great entertainment and undoubtedly one of more naturally talented drivers in F1 history, and I will happily praise him when he's done a good job but he can be such a knob and I find him very difficult to like on a personal level (on what we see on the outside anyway). It's quite interesting being a member on more international forums to get a more balanced view on him.

I like Hamilton and support him, but as you say he's hard to warm to as a person at times due to the way he sometimes comes across in interviews (although I like him overall). Even if he's had a good qualifying session or race he can give very short, minimal answers to interviews which can make things awkward. Maybe he doesn't like interviews, but they're part of F1 unfortuantely.

Compare that with someone like JB who is much easier to warm to. But that's life I guess, some people are more personable than others, especially in front of a camera.

I actually forgot all about that, you would think the people that have banged on all season long about how much lack of respect Rosberg deserves for being a cheat would have remembered this. :D

2015 news.

Standing safety car restarts have been scrapped along with double points.

Caterham have requested to use its 2014 car and engine next year.

Hurrah! Common sense prevails.

Has the rule allowing backmarkers to unlap themselves during a safety car been scrapped too?

Probably not. The FIA have already got rid of 2 stupid rules, so they have already doubled their annual quota of common sense pills.

Also the radio restrictions have apparently been canned.

Well done to the FIA. Introducing a rule change mid year again and then canning it at the end of the year.... So it was all pointless.

I wonder if Rosbergs issues on Sunday had anything to do with the radio messages rule being canned? Ted mentioned that there was lots of conversations happening that broke the rules, yet nothing was done.
