It won't happen, as nobody in that group looking at possible new (old) engines is actually an engine manufacturer. So even if they do decide to change back to some inefficient loud engines, they will propose them to the FIA and the engine manufacturers and be met with "er... nope".

Mercedes, Renault, Honda and now even Ferrari have come out supporting the V6 as the best future format. The working group is driven by Bernie, a handful of race promoters, and a few other knuckle dragging cavemen.

On top of that, surely in but one season the new engine formula has made a good step towards achieving its goals: ensure there's more high quality competition in the engine department (it has kept Merc/Renault in, and attracted Honda - who left during the apparently "magical" V8 era), being more fuel efficient (easily) whilst still providing power and challenge befitting of the "pinnacle of motorsport" - they're more powerful than previous engines, and the additional torque makes them harder to drive and shows off driver skill to a greater degree.

All the above are genuine advantages and great things. They have cost more in the last season - hardly surprising - I imagine the V8s were more expensive when first introduced too. Bernie is only eager to blame the engines as an easy distraction and scapegoat for the negative publicity surrounding the collapse of Marussia & Caterham, whereas the real issue lies at his own feet with the money sharing.

I hope you are right. I do like it when Bernie doesn't get what he wants.. :D:cool:

For the average Joe on the street F1 must look and sound so complicated. Its no wonder that aren't attracting the number fans they think they should be attracting. I cant wait to hear these V6's live for the first time this year. The V8's were so loud/annoying after an hour or so. (Or it could've been the hangover...)

Apparently it was added because they contractually obliged to add it, even though it was never going to take place.

Nope. Nobody knew about it. Event the Korean race promoters didn't know why it was on the calendar.

It was an attempt (again) by Bernie to try and write the rules himself.

Back on the new old engines fiasco, one complaint the cave men have that is fully valid is that F1 has utterly failed at promoting these new engines. Most casual fans don't know the engines are new, even fewer would know they are hybrids. The promotion of the strides forward F1 has made has been appauling.

The whole publicisation of ANYTHING F1 related is a complete and utter shambles. All the publicity and marketing is done by the teams themselves, there's no central marketing and publicity short of selling Paddock Club tickets.

Pretty much confirms a Honda influenced livery then, with them being their biggest backer?

I've still got my fingers crossed for orange though!

Team boss Eric Boullier says McLaren can survive without a title sponsor.

"Even without a title sponsor, McLaren is profitable," the Frenchman said.

"Therefore, we are not in a hurry to announce a title sponsor, as we want to make the right choice. It should correspond to the level of the team," Boullier added.

Hints slightly at not being able to find a sponsor willing to pay what McLaren think they are worth?

Well the classic Marlboro McLaren Honda liveries were beautiful in their red and white livery. I'd love to see something like that come back.

When you say orange do you mean completely orange like the test car of 97 or 98 or white and orange?

Orange and black would be brilliant, like the McLaren GT colours. Unfortunately they seem keen to keep the branding of the separate racing divisions different, so its doubtful.

I'm not convinced on Red and White. Its been done. That was that McLaren Honda era, this is a new one. I'd like to see them go with a new image. The black and gold on Lotus hasn't brought back the glory of the past, its just sort of tarnished that livery a bit.

Not sure if it's been posted but

McLaren has confirmed reports it will launch the Honda-powered 2015 car on 29 January.

We reported earlier that the Woking based team would stage an event for the unveiling of the MP4-30 at its headquarters.

"Yes," a McLaren spokesman told us on Friday.

"As has been reported recently on various websites, the McLaren-Honda MP4-30 will be launched on January 29th, but the method of launch has yet to be decided," he added.

:)

Red/White wasn't just McLaren Honda, they ran Marlboro sponsorship from 1974 to 1996 with Ford, TAG-Porsche, Honda, Peugeot and Merc engines...

Iconic all the same, but they need something fresh for 2015.

The ones I have seen thrown about ae very different, if we see them I will be pleasantly surprised!
