Motorsport Off Topic Thread

So McLaren will be launching their car on the 29th and Ferrari on the 30th, both online.

Force India are revealing their livery on the 21st

Any news on the others? Will they wait until the first test?

What about the earth livery? We need that back in F1!

:p

I'm guessing it'll be red/white/black like their liveries in other series (BTCC and SuperGT is all I can find right now).

No it wasn't, it was the Marlboro sponsorship era. Honda had zilch to do with it.

Were they any colour other than Red/White while running Honda engines?

But regardless, the combination of McLaren, Honda and red/white is a strong association that has stuck in people's minds. I just don't think it's worth bringing it back because of that.

http://kimiraikkonenspace.com/2015/01/18/irregularities-with-alonsos-teammmates/

"According to Argentine newspaper Clarin, Fernando Alonso had requested former Bridgestone engineer Hirohide Hamashima to destablize his teammates tyre performance, making sure a repeat of Hockenheim 2010 did not happen.

Alonso took the fight off-track against his teammates with reportedly mixtures of helium and nitrogen used in their tyres.

Gradually layoffs are carried out in the Scuderia. Hamashima, responsible for tyre performance analysis since 2012, was also removed from his post by Ferrari last December after the secret came to light to new team president Sergio Marchionne."

* I think the website "kimiraikkonenspace" may go someway towards explaining this !

No different to the inaccurate 'facts' people fling about regarding his time with Hamilton, or Piquet, or the accusations when he was at Renault first time round, or his contractual agreements with Massa...

Hang on, it is always Alonso isn't it? While this sounds completely fictional, you know what they say about smoke and fire.

You hear the commentators regularly talk about Alonso getting significant preferential treatment. Brundle was talking about it not long ago and saying it's not really a secret, everyone knows he gets the best parts first and they often hold upgrades off the other car. Now, for one practice session that is normal, one car gets a new part and they compare and contrast to see if one is actually faster. There have been constant rumours though that they basically make sure his car is faster.

How far this treatment goes no one can really tell. Vettel would get a new wing that Webber wouldn't get and WEbber was pretty vocal about it, they didn't really try to hide that kind of thing. With Alonso it seems similar but very hush hush, like they want to pretend everything is even. Kimi did seem to get pretty rubbish and slower strategies repeatedly, would constantly ask why they hadn't brought him in for a pitstop and the like.

Who knows, as with most conspiracies there will never really be proof they aren't real and the only proof is if Alonso ever came out and said his contracts always meant they took 20bhp off his team mates car and made sure he won, then it's all a guess.

He gets preferential treatment I'm 99% sure about that, but a lot of teams work that way, if it gets any more sneaky than that, I'm not entirely convinced but also wouldn't be completely surprised.

A top team would be stupid to purposely knobble the second car given their primary target is to win the constructors championship where both cars score. It's where the money is. The teams don't care much about the drivers title, it's a secondary bragging right.

I'm fairly sure an Argentina-sourced quote, from an unnamed person (in a newspaper), featured on a Kimi Raikkonen fans website can certainly rule there was never any smoke at all this time. :D

Edit: LOL, there never was an article in this paper.
