I want to see the Korean GP back, anyone else?

The Korean Grand Prix was a Formula One race held in the Republic of Korea, from 2010 until 2013, when it was dropped from the Formula One calendar. After four seasons the race was dropped having proved unpopular with fans, leaving many empty seats in the grandstands for each Grand Prix. That in part was caused by the circuit’s geographical location and the lack of accommodation in the surrounding area.

Pity, because it's one of the most interesting technical circuits. I remember spending a lot of time on this circuit when I did time trials on F1 2010. Always found that parabolica difficult to get right, and then turns 12 to 17 were very tricky.

Apparently there's a question mark over the Germany GP. Maybe they'll consider Yeongham instead?

So is the German gp actually dead seeing as I can't find any tickets.

I'm just watching the beginning of the Australian GP highlights and Suzi Perry says and I quote verbatim: "A question mark over the German Grand Prix, so we await further news on that. We do know that there aren't any tickets currently on sale for that event."

In the prem league they are getting not far off the 10billion mark for uk and worldwide tv rights.... which includes(in the uk at least more outside of the UK) 168 matches, vs what has recently become around the 20 mark for F1 races. There is simply at least 8 times the amount of actual content for viewers to watch. More adverts, more sponsorship, more money. There are also more teams, more players, and more support.

Do you think the prem league rights would still be worth approaching 10billion worldwide IF there were only 20 games being shown a year?

You can't really compare it like that though. Yes, there are 168 prem league games a season and ~20 grand prix, but look at what each thing actually consists of.

A football match consists of 90 minutes of action.
A grand prix consists on FP1 and 2 on Friday (circa 3-4 hours action), FP3 and qualy on Saturday (circa 2-3 hours of action) and nearly 2 hours of race on Sunday.

Yes I realise 20x8 hours of motorsport /= 168 games of football, but you can't simply say 20 /= 168.

Plus you have to add, I think the package Sky pay for also includes GP2 and GP3 and maybe highlights for Porsche racing as well.

Get them weeds pulled out of the old Hockenheim tarmac, the calendar needs more low downforce tracks!

Wow, this is actually pretty huge news:

Law change opens door for Formula E race in Switzerland

A relaxation in Switzerland's ban on motor racing has opened the door for Formula E to race in the country in the future.

Racing has been banned in Switzerland since the 1955 Le Mans disaster in which a number of spectators were killed.

However, Formula E, which recently carried out a demonstration run with Simona de Silvestro on the streets of Geneva, is now eyeing up a Swiss race in its third season (2016/17).

Formula E CEO Alejandro Agag praised the efforts of the championship's Swiss partners Julius Baer and TAG Heuer for their help on the matter.

"We are very happy to get the opportunity to bring Formula E to Switzerland and would like to thank our Swiss partners for their forceful support," he said.

"Now we will work on the details of the race, including the selection of the city which will host it."

FE must have some serious weight behind it to overturn a 60 year ban on motor racing!

I wonder if we will see other series going to Switzerland after this? Rallying maybe, as there are no circuits.

Van der Garde case set to be settled with €15m Sauber payout

The Giedo van der Garde v Sauber case looks set to come to a conclusion in the next couple of days after the parties finalised a settlement.

The bones of the deal were put in place in Australia on Friday, which is why the court action was dropped, and Sauber was able to compete.

It’s understood that the figure involved is €15m, a substantial sum given the obvious financial predicament of the team.

Reading Wiki it says Parliament voted to lift the ban, but never ratified it, and the idea was then scrapped and they had no plans to revisit it.

Imvest €8m, sue, take out €15m 6 months later. That's a pretty decent rate :p

But wasn't that €8m from companies backing him for advertising space on his car? I guess he will need to pay that back to them, and then I wonder what the rest will go to, maybe paid to the same companies for loss of earnings through no advertising :p .

Oh dear. The home country of a recent 4 times WDC and the current WCC champion can't get a race, while we go to Russia because there was a Russian guy in a car for a bit a few years back, and we go to Mexico because some Mexican bloke once did some overtakes...
