de la Rosa talking up HRT.. all very good but when will they bring some upgrades? Apart from the forced nose change, the car is the same as 2010.

If that was the case they'd be a lot further back than they are...wouldn't be able to race or outqualify Marussia for starters. Their main problem right now is tyre degradation.

Perez-Sala doesn't have enough staff (just 75, Caterham have at least double that and a lot more funding) to both design the 2013 car and work on major upgrades in-house at the same time, so they're doing the former. Whatever Holzer in Germany produced for them is relatively minor.

To be honest with lotus current pace and with their potential DDRS for both Spa and Monza its understandable other teams are concerned and looking at the option.

But surely after Spa and Monza, where else would it be worth having?

Its a bit late really, especially given its being banned next year. I'd rather McLaren focused on other areas.

it cant be that hard to implement in its basic form and having it could be the difference between a lot of WDC points with how close the top cars are

I guess it depends whether this "fluid switch activating above a given speed" is in the ballpark of something like 150mph+ or like 80+. Might be worth a lot still even on tight tracks like Singapore if it was the latter.

They wouldn't want it as low as 80mph, thats going to start dumping rear down force in the middle of high speed corners.

I'm just worried that they will be busy focusing on this and get leapfrogged by RBR and Ferrari again.

The fluid switch is not mechanical in any way. Anything mechanical would be against the regs.

Its a 'switch' in that the direction the air exits the pipework varies depending on the speed of the air. 100mph air is still 100mph air, regardless of weather the car is cornering or not.

Fluid switch is actually a pretty poor term for it. Its not a fluid as most people think (liquid), its air, which is treated as a fluid in aerodynamics, and the word 'switch' suggests something mechanical which moves, which isn't the case either. There should be a more fan friendly term for it.

Not sure if pearost...
