I don’t get that. I’ve the same criticism of the Olympics when they allowed the ROC (Russian Olympic committee).

…they’re Russian. ******* ban them

It's contradictory as they state it is inline with the IOC, yet the IOC stated on Tuesday for Russian and Belarusian athletes to be prevented from competing in international events...

I suppose the key difference is that RoC athletes are clearly representing Russia, that isn’t really how it works in F1. F1 is just all about the money these days.

As I said to my girlfriend it’s unfortunate that we have to punish ordinary Russian citizens to get at Putin - and in saying that I’m including just normal people that we respectively work with that are Russian. But at the end of the day, them suffering economically or perhaps losing their job is not anywhere close to a comparison of what their President is doing to the Ukrainian people. So they’ll just have to lump it.

Totally agree and the 'ban' should have remained in place for the full four years, not reduced to two and then effectively cancelled anyway by the ROC rubbish.

Motorsports UK has banned Russian licensed drivers from competing in the UK. If we see other countries follow suit Russian drivers will be de facto excluded from F1 regardless of the FIA's decision.

It's a bit of ***** move really. The Russian drivers race under a neutral flag anyway there shouldn't be a problem. It's not like the drivers are racing for Russia. Most won't live there either, and will need to be careful about what they say so any family that do live there don't get thrown into a gulag, so can't be running around openly supporting Ukraine.

Why have PitPass mentioned Daniil Kvyat? He wasn't likely to race in F1 any time soon anyway. I assume they meant Mazepin?

Think they got a bit confused there. It's on BBC now, so I've updated the link to a better source.

I'm happy either way. During apartheid, for example, sanctions applied to individual athletes too. Although I think the Mazepin family should be specifically targetted either way, Nikita is only there because his Dad is one of Putin's kleptocrats. It's not like he's just another Russian.

It isn't just about the token flag Russian drivers are racing under but any Russian backing they might have. Personally I feel all Russian sports person(s) should be excluded, full stop.
Seems the FIA, and the WTA are completely out of sync with the rest of the world..

They have to. It's tough luck. If fia don't ban it they are going to be in a world of fan backlash

I read Daniil Kvyat's comments stating he thought it was unfair banning all Russian athletes. Well unfortunately Daniil it is your government that is engaging in human rights breaches, a false war and killing innocent people. Go talk to them about it..
