Whilst cheating is one of the things in life I cannot abide, let’s face it, every team on the grid will be using accountants to be creative with their finances. As with their cars, they will be taking all steps to extract the maximum budget and exploit loopholes.

Only difference here is RBR got caught (IE didn’t quite hide it well enough or spent their budget on Aero rather than a top tier accountant! ;) )

The tax rebate is yet to appear as I understand it, and the FIA are assuming it will, which brings them back to £432k, or 0.37% over the cap.

They also miscalculated by £5.8million or so. They claimed to be well (£4million iirc) under budget, but were actually £432k (arguably £1.8million) over.

So Red Bull are either administrationally challenged or were trying to hide stuff. When they are a team as well established as RB(in business and the sport) its hard for me to believe they got it that wrong by accident. The FIA are being very polite about it as far as I can tell. Largely because its probably far too much trouble to prove. Hence the "negotiations"...

However, in a sport where margins are tiny, that's not insignificant, hence the fines/penalties they have to face going forward.

It's a slam-dunk and they got a lifeline with the tax rebate.

I don't really know how the FIA can say some things that they left out the cap have to be included. But something they shouldn't of included, still has to be included.

Going over the cap isn't the same as exploiting a loophole in the rules. Speculating that other teams might have also cheated so Red Bull doing it isn't really that bad is a really poor justification.

I’m not justifying anything, merely indicating that it is likely other teams have been exploiting the rules as they always do, given in this instance the rules have been a bit woolly (in terms of punishment outcomes at least) and never tested in reality.

I’m certainly no advocate of RBR, I can’t actually stand their antics but in my opinion the people casting RBR as the devil team are perhaps conveniently overlooking that all the other teams will be using accountants to take as much spend as possible out of the remit of the cap. RBR cocked it up and are now going to pay a price.

Being holier than thou could be embarrassing for some once this seasons numbers are released!

I think of this and it reminds me of Brazil last year. The Merc rear wing was 0.2mm out of spec and Horner was jumping up and down protesting about it. There was a severe penalty imposed and that tiny error was corrected before the race. I wonder what percentage out of spec that 0.2mm is equal to, I suspect it’s absolutely miniscule.

Now we have Red Bull who are out of spec with their budget. The other teams aren’t happy about it but Horner seems to be surprised by this and basically wants them all to shut up and mind their own business.

If a driver goes slightly over the line, he’s out of track limits. There’s no margin for error there.

This whole minor and major breach thing is a joke. There’s a limit, it doesn’t matter how far over a team is, they break it, they should suffer serious consequences otherwise there’s little point in having the limit.

I’ve said I don’t think the results of last year should be changed, I stand by that but I don’t think this punishment is enough. The fine is ridiculous when you look at how much the teams spent in previous years and the few hours reduction in wind tunnel time won’t make a lot of difference because the car has already been developed during the year the team spent too much. The punishment simply doesn’t reflect the offence.

Seidl also downplayed Horner’s explanations of why Red Bull went over the cap, although he insisted that he hadn’t watched the Red Bull boss’s press conference.

"I didn't watch it,” he said. “I didn't like fairy tales as a kid. That's why I wasn't interested to listen to Christian’s press conference today! (

Love it. Horner needs calling out on his rubbish more often.

Anyone caught Alonso's latest nonsense about Lewis and Lewis' Twitter retort?

It's amazing

Alonso literally making up his own reality to make himself feel better about Lewis having a more successful career than him.

That season where they were teammates and he got equalled (well, technically beaten even) has wrecked him.

I thought Alonso was mates with Lewis now, maybe he's regretting next years choice of carriage

As I said before in this thread, Alonso's salty statements are laughable. His latest interview with De Telegraaf he's basically said Max's two titles are worth more than Hamilton's because Lewis only had to battle his team mate. Lol I mean the guy is deluded and so bitter. He should let his racing do the talking only.

As the actual racing and championship have become a bit dull now they keep dragging up controversies and records that could be broken, anything to create a false buzz around the event.
