Have to agree, there is no Goats in F1, the car is 90% of it, team strategy 1%, luck 5% and the driver 4%. Most of the grid could be race winners in the right car.

We've just been unlucky enough as viewers to go through a long period of bottas/Perez, who pose no challenge, bottas was picked for that reason entirely by Merc, but looks like red bull don't want that much longer.

Most of the grid would not be winning in red bull no 2.

Because RB won’t let them, right ;)
Any team will favour the stronger driver, but it's highly unlikely that any other driver could hop into the RB and out-drive Max.

That being said, Russell was impressive with his short-notice move to Merc - completely destroyed BOT.

To ask a slight alternative question (because trying to find the greatest driver is impossible) - What's the Greatest F1 Car Of All Time?

FW14B?
F2004?
MP4/4?
RB19?

What?
That's a tough one but probably easier if you compare it to the other cars of the same year.

The F2004 was an incredible car partly because Ferrari tested that thing day and night at Fiorano. The RB19 was also something special especially when you consider that it had the weakest engine (Renault).

I think that's a question on a hiding to nothing too. How do you judge the "best" - simple number of race wins in a season? or points scored? well that doesn't take in to account the increased number of races these days or change in points. So percentage of wins? or percentage of potential points scored? They're probably better than counts but do we go on the percentage of wins for races entered? or races finished? Races entered I'd argue is better but reliability in recent years has been so vastly superior to back in the day but does an unreliable car actually stop it being a great car? or the greatest car? Should cars that were technologically superior be considered in the greats, such as the first cars with skirts, turbo cars or a fan car, simply for the creativity and the paradigm shifts they brought to the sport even if they, themselves, weren't actually that great?

Lotus 72.

Basically defined the modern F1 car.
Ran competitively for 5 years and got 20 wins, 17 poles, 3 Constructors Championships and 2 Drivers Championships.

That's a lie, Bottas was picked because he was the best option available at the time. Bottas was performing perfectly fine if Merc wanted a number 2 driver, but they didn't so they dropped him for another Rosberg like driver that would push Hamilton.

I think you're largely correct, but I wouldn't go as far as lie. Mercedes were very keen to avoid another Rosberg/Hamilton relationship breakdown, and I think they were happy to take a weaker driver in order to achieve that. From what I remember at the time a lot of people thought Bottas was an uninspired choice (I thought they should take Wehrlein, IIRC).

The F2004 was amazing, but I always wonder why the F2002 doesn't get held in the same regard. I remember when that car was introduced it was all over.
Aside from Monaco, it bulldozed through the season, laughing at all other challengers.

FW15C.

When a car is so good, they need to change the regulations to give the competition a chance.

SVG, Kobayashi, Button, Rockenfeller & Kostecki all racing in the NASCAR cup race at Indy Road in half hour, very cool how many people from other series are taking part in the road races.

Race is on Viaplay 1 for those in UK

Viaplay is the reason I won't be watching this. Will hopefully be a full race replay uploaded though in a couple of days/weeks on Nascar YouTube channel...
