Motorsport Off Topic Thread

It's hard to compare a driver with five Grand Prix starts (excluding sprint) to ones with 234 and 58, these ground effect cars are difficult to master and I think Lawson did a pretty decent job in challenging circumstances.

Personally I think a year out of the car could see another Junior driver jump the queue for 2025, Lawson's Formula One dream may already be over unless something extraordinary happens in 2024.

At least Lawson has a career in IndyCar to fall back on.

Assuming Sargeant remains at Williams, will 2024 be the first Formula One season with no driver changes from the previous year (hope that makes sense)?

Honestly I can't remember this happening before, and if correct it doesn't bode well for rookies in the future.

This popped through on one of my work/techy email newsletters and I thought it was quite interesting; https://www.aboutamazon.com/news/aws/f1-ai-insights-grand-prix

All about the new insights/graphics, like 'alternative strategy' which I noticed yesterday was used for the first time at COTA. Clever stuff, at least somebody in F1 is making improvements for the fans. (Or more likely AWS as they're the smart ones :p)

Sounds good. Now I just wish BTCC would sort out a decent way to watch weekend highlights. I just don't have time to sit and watch it all day, and ITV don't split the races out in the TV guide
I have it recording but then start watching it a couple of hours after the coverage starts, that way you can fast forward the adverts and races that don't appeal (Porsches are so boring for me)

Another recorder @& chase play here, rarely watch live.

Can make Sunday evenings a bit busy if its an F1 weekend though!

First year in a fair while I didn't get out to a BTCC meeting - criminal when I have Oulton on my doorstep, and Donnington/Silverstone within easy reach. Will try harder! Hopefully Ingram (or someone else for that matter) can reel in Ash Sutton as his performance this year was another level.

More rumours from Germany about the status of the Audi F1 project with teams seemingly describing it as "stillborn" at this point.
The new Audi CEO isn't keen apparently while the old one (ousted in June was)... you would think the sensible thing for VAG to do would be just to turn it into a Porsche F1 team seen as they always appeared keener on the idea in the first place.

Lot of money spent though, $450m on buying Sauber, thats a lot to lose although I reckon there's plenty of Middle East money floating around, or even another manufacturer perhaps.
I would say Andretti but I can't see them wanting to buy an established team, and frankly it would be a shame for a team to be bought simply for their F1 entry and effectively closed down.

Japanese Super Formula having some crazy incidents as ever at Suzuka.

The 2 cars touched at 130R, with one of them clearing the barrier, catch fencing and ending up at the lower part of the track at Degner 1 before the track underpass

Both drivers are okay..ish. One driver has a concussion.

The video is in the twitter thread, very reminiscent of Alan Mcnishs Toyota crash there in the early 2000s.

Insane.

A short clip from the Supercars coverage at the weekend with Larko explaining how they monitor track limit infringements in the series. Maybe F1 could use a little help from down under?

(Sticking this in here for more eyes on it plus I've mostly abandoned the Supercars thread due to poor health.)
