"Stake F1"

Are they having a laugh? What a stupid name.
TBF it was part of the official name last season and was written on the side of the car.

I'm guessing it's pretty acrimonious, given that he got the boot 6 weeks before testing starts, and he's not given the usual 'thank you for your time, wonderful opportunity, achieved all I wanted to' statement as he's walking out the door.

At least it gives the new guy someone to blame for a while. I can't see Haas lasting much longer. If Gene isn't already looking for a way out, he really should be.

Good...He was a terrible TP to begin with. Although to add Gene is a joke as well, so the whole team should be kicked to be honest.

Terrible? No, I don't think so. Whatever his flaws, he managed to keep Haas running for ten years, most of that bumping along on a shoestring budget. Neither Marussia nor Virgin before managed that from the same base of operations; and many other small teams have fallen over the years.

You don't stay as team principle for 10 years in a cut throat business like F1 by being 'terrible'. Haas have had some excellent years where they overachieved followed by some terrible years where they then had to put focus on the following season instead. Given their apparent rather low budget and the fact they were effectively a new team on the grid I think they've done rather well overall given the established competition.

How exactly was Steiner terrible?

His attitude to some of his drivers etc, how he spoke to them, ( and usually blaming them outright for terrible team calls) bringing what upgrades they could in the year ( again not his whole faulty as Gene has no interest in F1 at all apart from being a billboard for his name), that didn't do anything but made the car go backwards, theirs a reason he was in that position, Gene didn't care, till he became a problem, he has no interest in the team at all.

Interesting comments from Gene here:

“I like Guenther, he’s a really nice person, a really good personality. We had a tough end to the year. I don’t understand that, I really don’t. Those are good questions to ask Guenther, what went wrong. At the end of the day, it’s about performance. I have no interest in being 10th anymore.”

Haas is convinced that Komatsu has the right skill set to turn the team around.

“We looked from within, at who had most experience,” says Haas. “Ayao has been with the team since day one, he knows the ins and outs of it.

“My biggest concern is when we go to Bahrain, we need to show up with a car that is ready to go. Maybe having more of a managerial-type and engineering approach, we’ll see if that has benefits.

“I think Guenther had more of a human-type approach to everything with people and the way he interacted with people, he was very good at that.

Ayao is very technical, he looks at things based on statistics – this is what we’re doing bad, where can we do better. It’s a different approach.

(My emphasis)

Gene sees no reason to invest in the team and i'm convinced he thinks that Ferrari have done all the hard work with designs and all Haas need to do is bolt together every bit they can leglly buy and that will make a championship winning car.... unfortunately he can't quite make the leap from that to the fact that ferrari have designed their whole car around themselves and Haas just cannot get their package working properly.

also he should be careful of basing things on statistics, Merc did that with their no-pods and just refused to accept that they couldn't get them working , this could bite Haas in the cushioned sitting area and make them worse than they currently are

To be fair Mercs statistics where modelled on the wrong size scale of the car in testing, all the data was false.

Lack of investment and concentrating on the 2024 car, shirley?

And getting rid of the guy who oversaw its development is the way to do that? The new guy gets 6 weeks to change around management structures and maybe build a wing mirror. Putting him in charge now ain't going to change ****.

The more I hear from Haas the more I'm convinced he is an actual clown. The Rich Energy debacle, the Mazepin money-grab, now this...
