He's just another American who doesn't get it.

I read elsewhere that Haas' European sales have tripled since they entered F1. Gene isn't primarily in F1 to win races, he's there to build connections with high powered manufacturing companies that will buy his machines, and to increase brand recognition for his company. Sure, he'd like the team to do well but it doesn't necessarily need to do that in order to be a success for him.

I think it's less that he doesn't get it, and more that his goals don't align with what we want from F1 teams.

I think folk overlook that Haas is in F1 for one reason and that's to promote his Haas Automation business; I don't think he really gives much thought to where the car is on the grid as long as its getting exposure; he clearly seems happy with the level of investment and up until now seems to have been pretty happy for Steiner to basically run the show.

Haas will never be anything but a backmarker or very mid-midfield team; they barely build any of it themselves with the chassis coming from Dallara and them buying as much as possible from Ferrari; but Gene Haas doesn't really care, its about his business - not winning F1 races.

And you know what, fair play to him; if that's what he wants to do its no different to why other teams or manufacturers get into F1; it just feels a little outdated.

Without Steiner, HAAS has likely lost about 50% of their tv coverage once DTS have covered last years season. Love or hate Steiner he was a character that attracted the tv cameras and took the attention away from the lack luster performance.
Gene may say he wants more for his investment going off his last statement but by this point its pretty clear he's in it just for the exposure, i doubt any technical talent be it driver or engineer worth there salt want to be associated with an F1 billboard meaning getting real talent to the team is going to be a big up hill battle (or expensive and thats clearly not going to happen with the way he invests in the team)

I'm pretty sure that the zero pods did have the advantages they thought they did; the problem is that they hurt the rest of the car design so much that the overall package ended up being slower.
You're pretty much correct there, the aerodynamics on a F1 isn't about just one part as they all need to act together as a whole and unfortunately the zero pods did not give the results they indicated they would, presumably from the wind tunnel, on the track in conjunction with the rest of the car.
Mercedes stuck it out in the hope they could modify the rest of the car to work with the side pods but ultimately threw in the towel.
As they kept stating it isn't just the pods,

Osaka looking to rival Suzuka for Japan's place on the F1 calendar:

I bloody hope not; last thing we need is another street circuit; and certainly not to replace one of the best tracks on the grid

NASCAR runs alternative pit crews I'm sure with them working every other weekend. They may end up having to do this if they keep putting the number of races up. Pit staff are usually on site from Wednesday to build up and often don't leave until either very late on Sunday night or sometimes even Monday. With more races and more back to back GP's being inevitable it would be like working and only sleeping and flying for potentially 2-3 weeks at a time with little rest. It's too much.
