Motorsport Off Topic Thread

I guess we now have to take quotes from newspapers as being the truth?
If you want a toxic environment go work for the sun, mail, star etc etc...
Where are all the newspaper articles about Toto being a ****, or Zak or Steiner being a sex pest or something? You must admit there's something different about RB's attitude, particularly the senior staff like the aforementioned three musketeers. I don't recall seeing any articles bad mouthing other team principles or staff, yet in RB it is common. This was written years ago. (Read a copy/paste of the article here on Reddit and actually read the comments too). There's been plenty more of those since '21.
Unfortunately these days even if you're innocent you can be made to resign because of the negative media and gossip attention a company will receive. This thread is evidence of that...
I don't think anyone here has said he should resign because of this. a lot of people would be happy to see him go, obviously. But you know what, we're allowed to say that.

F1 is a cut-throat business for sure, but Redbull have taken it to extremes with their behaviour and treatment of drivers, teams, fans and the whole of F1. This has entirely been under the reign of Horner which reached it's worst in season 2021 with the Max vs Lewis shenanigans. Excuse me whilst I have zero sympathy for Horner. People posting comments like:

are in complete denial and are entering protection mode for Redbull trying to fight a corner which is completely void of any morals, joy or backbone. Redbull have completely cheated and employed underhand and dirty tactics off the track and on. They are hated for good reason.
Perhaps under new management they can seek to find a happier place and try to undo what is essentially rot to the core currently.

Classic RB hater!

You're on your own with that accusation. Stooping to disgusting lows..

The quality of your reply is such a compelling argument to the contrary. Would you like to expand and put up some proper arguments as to why we should support Horner through these difficult times, or shall we just get straight to the real hardcore defence items such as being a Lewis fanboy negating any such opinion on Redbull?

RB means Red Bull. So much hate for ANYTHING RB related!!

I'll make it Civil by injecting some spicy AD2021 drama...

Have a look at points 54-59 :p

I had a read. I think the key take aways from this case to me seem to be:

1: A race will never be "cancelled" or nullified unless it is directly due to "the postponement or cancellation of a competition only in case of Force Majeure or for safety reasons"
2: They will almost never adjust race results because it basically becomes too complex and tries to "rectify an unfair situation by creating another unfair situation."

This is concerning but no doubt predictable. Basically if we ever have shenanigans again where rules are incorrectly applied in a live race, it will almost never be rectified by adjustment of placings because the very nature of a live race is complex. A "fair" adjustment can never be determined. A bit like the butterfly effect. If we did this then that could have happened etc.

This means that we have to live with any "mistakes" or "confusion" in the future, including where "overriding authority" is used, even if we get unfair results.
So the FIA do not want to attempt to tackle the lottery aspect of these situations, but rather let it play out and you have to suck it up.

I think the whole safety car thing causes so many issues. I'd love to see them come up with a solution to keep the time gaps from before and after. An easy one discussed before, is to bring them all into the pits when ready to get going again, everyone stop in a line at end of the pitlane, and then you just set off with time gap intervals a bit like a rally start.

As a fan of the sport in general, the answer seems fairly simple to as to why lots of people "hate" Red Bull?

Just off the top of my head :D

The TP is a (love) cheat, who left his wife with a 6 month old baby to shack up with a more famous lady.
The TP pressured the race director for a mis-use of the rules in a title championship deciding race to ensure they won, which stopped a record-breaking championship win for globally a well liked driver.
Their "Motorsports Advisor" has had some very questionable opinions on race, and faced little to no censure from the team for public comments made.
The parent of their lead driver is a convicted violent criminal, and is hosted by the team like an old friend.
The team breached the budget cap in a winning year, and claimed the actions taken against them (which were relatively minor) as "Draconian", whilst steadfastly refusing to even come close to apologising.
Their lead driver assaulting another driver for an on-track incident in the garages after the race - TP claimed the other driver was "lucky to get away with a push"
Their treatment of "second drivers" in the team is seen as very ruthless, and even dishonest, for example in the case of Webber signing an extension under the agreement he would have equal terms, which was clearly not the case.
The Team have backed the often overly aggressive driving style of their lead driver regardless of the implications to the sport.

I suspect there are many other things that I do not remember/know, but it is clear that they are going to be one of the more divisive F1 Teams out there.

Reads like a LH fan....

Am I doing it right everyone? AM I????? Dont ban me Feek.

Genuinely though, everyone has a level of bias in here, its shows heavily, everyone needs to understand that you wont get through to everyone and not everyone will agree.
People should stop trying to come across as the moral high-ground when it is just their bias coming through though.

So he isn't the first man to have done this, pot calling the kettle black perhaps. Petty and judgemental...

Not more street circuits please! booo
I wish someone would build a purpose built F1 circuit with old school grass run offs for physical, instant track limit penalisation. There's surely enough money in F1 for someone to do it.

I was just quoting facts as closely as I could to explain why RB might be more "hated" by people in general.

For the record, happily married, kids, and never left a wife with a baby to shack up with a spice girl :D I assume that's the bit you are calling petty?

Since when did *not* being the first person to do it make it an acceptable thing to do? That's a pretty stupid defence.

Everything in @Malt_Vinegar's post is a legit fact. It seems the divide between those who are RB fans (note - I'm talking specifically fans of the team here, not the drivers) and those who aren't is that those multiple egregious character flaws aren't a deal breaker.

I mean his personal life incident with his wife and Geri is none of our business... But as long as it's common knowledge and out in the public. You've got to be a pretty **** man to do that to a woman. Let's have it right lol

So what you’re saying is, as long as I’m the second man to do something I should never be judged or thought of negatively for it? Cool, I look forward to using that defense after I rob a bank.

Yes that’s a crime but it highlights the absurdity of your position. Everyone should be judged based on their actions, their morality. And in that respect, is is really that much of a leap to see why people think Horner (and a couple other RB staff) is found wanting.
