So it seems that RB's technical director is going to Ferrari. I wonder if that was known by Lewis before he signed.
Sauce? I presume that’s not Newey too :p I scanned the usual sites this morning and didn’t see anything about this.

This is the sort of stuff I hope for. I don’t believe Lewis and his team got lucky with the move to Mercedes. I’m hoping the same applies here, that they’ve seen good stuff happening, more than just promising signs but actual evidence that perhaps Ferrari will be the team to beat come 2026. We can hope anyway.

It's on the BBC, but it literally says "without proof":

Although the fact that many people in F1 believe - without proof - that Red Bull's technical director Pierre Wache, effectively Newey's number two, is already on his way to Italy in the not-too-distant future may complicate matters.

It's mentioned in quite a few places, so maybe there's something to it, but it seems at the lower end of rumour for now.

The issue can be that even though a sum of a team can excel at the end of the day individuals can think they're good enough to go it alone then reality kicks in and they can quickly discover that without those other team members they aren't as good as they thought they were.

Neither do I believe Lewis knew anything other than what was common knowledge across the whole paddock, which might have been nothing.
But surely anyone at that level will need to have gardening leave before they can join another team and this could be as long as year?

Latest on Horner from Sky: he was in for eight hours, no news, and no comment. Nothing to discuss here.

That can certainly happen but, while I don't doubt Newey's talent I also find it unlikely that there's no one else in the teams around the world equally as good. Whether that's Pierre, I don't know, but I'd be slightly surprised if he went to Ferrari since they seem to be strong on promoting from within.

Lewis is one of the most established drivers on the grid, and easily the most successful, I have no doubt that he has an extensive range of contacts that are capable of bringing him information. Also, I wouldn't be at all surprised if Ferrari themselves shared information with him in order to entice him in. That might be unusual, but Lewis is an unusually valuable driver. And, yeah, I'd expect gardening leave too so I doubt Lewis would have been swayed if the information is true. He can't be expecting more than a few years in red.

I was not referring to Newey.
I guess every driver has their feelers out through their management agencies who will then report back to them. It is probably a normal remit of any manager to stay on top and abreast of any developments. Yes any team looking at luring another driver will probably use anything they can to get them to sign for them.

Nope nothing new from RB and that was to be expected really...

I'm not sure I understand then. I thought you were talking about Pierre leaving and discovering that he's not all that?
No it's probably me then as I was referring to Pierre and must have missed the bit that stated he wasn't leaving.
Thus my apologies...

James Allen is a very good journalist and has a lot of inside knowledge of F1 - his blog is a very good read.

His problem is that when he tries to inject some excitement into his F1 commentary it comes accross as incredibly fake. "Lewis Hamilton......................... WINS!" for example.

I hope the last few years he's had off he's realised this and will change his style.
Post deleted, egg clearly on my face :o

Interesting article with a somewhat misleading headline from Autosport regarding Alonso's belief that he will be able to carry on racing for many years to come based on how he is performing in medical tests.

I really don't see the Alonso appeal. I bet he's a right pain to work with and his former McLaren stint was nothing short of embarrassing from them but also him. He's trying so hard to spin a story to stay relevant. It's time he gave up his seat to a much needed rookie in my opinion.

All quiet on the Horner front, not even the media finding a crumb to turn into a nothing-burger. Soon see the teams at testing through, that's exciting.

Relevant? He doesn't need to try and stay relevant he is by virtue of his performances; he's easily still in the top 3-4 drivers on the grid currently; maybe that says more about the younger generation than it does Alonso though.
Its Stroll and Sargent that should be giving up their seats; maybe Magnussen and Hulkenburg as well.

Horner was at the Red Bull shakedown today but yes nothing else so far.

*cool video*

I wonder how much of that difference is reflex speed and how much of it is familiarity with that training exercise? We've seen Gasly do that at the track, and on DtS, many times. It seems to be part of his regularly training programme whereas I doubt the other guy has done it before.
