Mount & Blade 2: Bannerlord

So chased down the last few lords I needed to talk to (only 2), basically by visiting the southern lands for the first time, very straight forward. Had a baby, and again, 20 seconds later, wife is pregnant, I'm thinking travelling with the wife is making this a very very quick process.

Got the 2nd banner piece, and am now clan tier 3. Going to use my spare companion slot to find an engineering companion, ready for the first big step to running my own kingdom. Might see if I can't sweet talk some lords first, get good relationship with them, ready to poach.

Great way to recruit higher level troops is to kill bandits who've defeated lords. You can use Alt to see more info, including what prisoners they have. Normally it's just peasents, but I've picked up maybe 30 high quality troops (rank 3 or higher, including some specials) by just killing off looters.

Oh, man speaking of Companions I didn't realise you could do all of this to track and speak to them... https://www.pcgamer.com/mount-and-blade-2-bannerlord-companions-best-how-to-equip/

Where to find companions in Bannerlord

The continent of Calradia is a big place, but you have some handy tools to help you track down companions for hire. Here's how to find what companions are available to hire and where they might be located:

  • Press 'N' to open the Encyclopedia and select the Heroes panel.
  • Scroll down to the Occupation panel and select Wanderer—that's the designated occupation for any recruitable companion.
  • Clicking any of the displayed names will take you to that companion's page where you can see their skills and, if you look in the far right corner, a timeline of where they've been. This is how you can track them down, but companions move about frequently, so if it'll take you a few days to reach a certain city, the companion might have moved on.
  • Once you arrive in any major city, enter the tavern district. Any recruitable companions will be listed in the character panel at the top of the screen. Click their portrait to talk to them directly, where you can learn their backstory, their cost, and offer to have them join you.
Using the process above, you can find any companion anywhere in Calradia (assuming they haven't already died, that is).

Looks like I might start again... sigh. :(:D

Why start again? Wonderful thing about this game is that unless there's been a big patch (say going to Beta), you're often able to just change tact. Fire your whole army etc, and start again if you want. You'll have more skills, more money and more renown, than simply starting over would give you.

Of course, if your character isn't playing as you want it, then that's different, even so, are you better off training a new skill, or starting over and training lots?

Join a faction of your choice, wait for the notification that appears on the right-side of the screen saying "X has formed an army". Head over to said army, and speak to the lord and join the army. I recommend saving the game at this point :)
You can get up to 50 renown per battle if the army clashes with another.

Ive just hit level 3 by doing bandit bashing and arena

I couldn’t hit a cows arse with a banjo at the start but it’s incredibly satisfying to run someone down with a polearm now :p

Aaaaaaaand bleh.

Assaulted a castle after beating a lord to declare war. Was on the way to victory, even with poor pathing. Then my troops were in the castle, 40 of them vs the last 6 (i was down), and they sit, in the inside, next to the door, whilst a few militia arches slowly kill them all off...

I don't mind some pathing issues, but that was highly frustrating. Glad I made a few saves, but not sure what my approach will be.

Hmm... I guess I am just a bit OCD about starting from fresh when I know I can do something better.... but you are right I will suppress the urge and look at my options. :)

LOL that sucks but like it won't be repeated on the next time you replay the assault.

I didn't have any siege equipment ready either. For some reason my engineer wasn't engineering, so it was really slow. A couple of enemy lords turned up and would have probably kicked my arse if I hadn't gone for it there and then. Figured defending a castle is easier than fighting 2 lords in the field.

I'll see where my save takes me.

I learnt that too, just to immediately build a battering ram and then start the assault if there is even a sniff of enemy parties starting to home in on me. Would love to have the luxury of playing with the ballistae and trebuchets etc but I just didn't have the time to build them. :(

I was doing well, helping out the Southern Empire as a mercenary clan. Captured 4 factional leaders with my army of 80 elite soldiers....
...But I got ganged upon by 6 Northern Empire Leaders and their armies of 220 soldiers. After a close, bloody battle, we were defeated and the factional leaders were released.
During my time in prison of 9 days, the Southern Empire had taken 2 cities from the North and my income was great enough for me to bribe my way out of prison for 15000 denariis.
Having evaded Forest Bandits and killing 7 looters, I eventually made my way back to Vostrum to meet one of my Companions.
Together, we have acquired 20 young recruits and are making our way to Magreb, to reconcile with another of my trustful companions.

..Win or lose, I'm loving Bannerlord, more than an upgrade from Warband.

Engineers not helping with sieges seems to be a known bug. Hopefully fixed soon, since I want to start carving out more of an empire, hired a bunch of mercenary clans, and I'm ready to try and fight a few folk.

Wow, one of the reviewers from The Angry Joe Show decided to review this game in its current state (or the state of the day he played it in) and absolutely slaughtered it:

While he has a few fair points, a lot of what he says is plain wrong and if you listen to him he just seems to have constant crashes and game-breaking bugs which I have not at all experienced. His comment son the combat etc just had me scratching my head.

Watch it and judge for yourselves...

So my mercenary clans were apparently mercenary... They left.

Still, set my wife up with an army, and leveled up my clan, so hired a decent fighter/tactician type and gave him a starting army too. Apparently I declared war on Battania? Think that's a known bug. Still, they'd just taken Lagerta, which was next to my castle, great opportunity to take it for myself. Called my army together, noted that everyones engineering went up, had to feed my friends, and took the town with relative ease. Now to try and hold onto it. I'll try and get peace with Battania I think, give myself time to build up the garrison.

maybe hes one of those guys who thinks people will dislike the game so making fun of it will impress them.
if i want to find out how good a game is I will check forums, look at youtube channels of people who only play specific genres. so the people giving the opinion I know for sure are in to these types of games.

review channels just waste of time imo, its like back in the 90s when you had some RTS guy in pcgamer reviewing gran turismo or something even though they dont normally play driving games

Nar, why even give them a view :)

I've decided to bin the idea off of starting my own kingdom as it seems to be impossible, my party size is only 110 (albeit strong, virtually every warrior is tier 4/5) and I haven't come across a castle yet that doesn't have at least 250-300 in the garrison. Plus building a siege takes too long, by the time i'm ready to attack another army of 300+ has come along and scuppered my plans. Instead i've joined a kingdom as a vassall and am going around with their armies/creating my own building influence until I can hopefully take a castle (and be voted to keep it), then declare independence.

I don't see any other way of doing it?

Very addictive game though, it's one of those 'just another turn/battle' type of games where it'll be another hour on top of what you planned to play. The big fights are awesome and the depth even at this early access stage seems crazy, I haven't even touched any of the main diplomacy, settlement/kingdom management stuff yet.

Can you not separate your companions, give them their own parties and then combine them as armies when needed? I thought that was possible.

Yeah, turned it on at 10pm last night for an hour, next thing I know it was past midnight :)
