Mountain Biking

God last night's ride was wet! Not impressed with my Endura MT500 shorts at all, they're barely still waterproof and the crotch area stitching has come undone. For £60 I expected a lot better!

How old are they? Warranty claim them.

Stitching came undone on raceface arm pads week before last - complained and emailed photos - got immediate no quibble replacement set plus they let me keep the old set so that saved on postage and general arsing around.

Less than a year old.

I've emailed Evans whom I bought them from and they've said they're not covered by warranty but might be covered by the manufacturers warranty. Wtf... Evans are useless, I did vow never to buy anything again from them but I had a 50% off voucher for the shorts!

odd, all of my endura shorts have been bombproof (singletrack, hummvee and tonne of liners)

My hummvee shorts are brilliant, tough as old boots, the fabric as seriously hardwearing, i've had a few offs that havnt even scuffed them up, not even remotely waterproof, but dry out so quick it makes no difference,

Yeah, either Surrey hills, Aston or Woburn. I'll let you know what the consensus is tomorrow

Something's come up and I need to be in Guildford at 12pm, so I'm going to smash a quick lap around Swinley early in the morning. If you're riding on Sunday and the weather isn't too bad, please let me know :)

Just got back from the ride tonight, absolutely fallen in love with that Kenesis! It's a gorgeous bike, fast, doesn't feel like a 29er at all. I want one! Although, my bum is a little sore! :(

After a fork upgrade recommendation - presently have a Suntour XCR, 120mm, coil, damping and manual lockout.

Thinking about spending maybe £150/£200 ish for a low end air 120mm.

Any recommendations?

Also - if my current fork is tapered does that mean I have to stick with tapered? It's a bit confusing.

XC bike but I get a fair bit of tree roots where I ride.

:)

Save your money, it won't be an upgrade. You're looking at spending about 300+ on the second hand market for an upgrade.

My wife's Specialized Myka (Suntour XCR) was vastly improved with a Rockshox 30 Gold TK Solo Air (<£200). She's tiny and demanded a 29er as a starter bike. Bike was HEAVY at the front so, after watching her struggle I succumbed and bought the Rockshox. While it wasn't going to be a jump in performance, it's main advantage was that it is 1.2 kg lighter than the Suntour fork. The bike is still a bit too big for her (not like she'll grow into it) but, the lighter front end makes it more manageable & fun for her. It was a very marginal upgrade on the bike but, gave her a much needed confidence boost. Next up for her is a more realistically proportioned FS Bike.

Thanks.

The Suntour forks on mine have magnesium outers and the bike as a whole is only 13.8 kilos so the weight issue....isn't an issue, for me. I just hoped that if I threw £200 or so at a set of air forks I'd see a noticeable difference in the ride/capability at the front of the bike - which seems not to be the case, or at least not to any degree worth £200.

So, in recent years air suspension have come a long old way and now very much match the suppleness of a coil, but will not be the case at the price range you're looking at.

If you consider the basics / physics of it all, coil will always be more supple, because of all the gubbins involved in keeping the air inside the chamber. All that causes more friction and therefore less suppleness. So unless you're trying to lose weight, then there's no point (unless you raise the budget a touch and go second hand)

What wheelsize is your bike?

27.5inch. I'm not fussed about trimming weight tbh, 13.8 isn't exactly heavy, imo. If I could have made some improvements for £200 I'd have gone for it - but seems not to be the case, so I'll point the £200 in the direction of clothing and maybe lights too - wet weather & dark nights just around the corner.

This should be a pretty darn good upgrade:

I've got a set of these on my full sus, great set of forks, especially as i got given mine as my sektors went boom when i kinda hit a jump too big. Feel really smooth and they've taken everything i've thrown at them, including a 9ft drop to flat at my local skatepark.
