Mountain Biking

I did buy some yea :( they look **** compared to my thin hope grips but willing to give them a try

Guess those things make sense a bit, if you're mostly sat down doing long XC rides. They'd be dire for anything that's a bit more involved.

He doesn't even wear padded shorts anymore. Maybe it is that comfortable? :P

You wear padded shorts?

does anyone actually sit down when doing trails like BPW?

my mate does this and then wonders why he gets thrown off.

I don't think my arse touches the saddle to need padded shorts. XC maybe

Of course not.
I'm guessing you bought those things as a reaction to getting arm / hand pump?

While grips certainly make a difference, and depending on a balance needs to be found (thick grips tend to kill you for cramps, but too thin and you don't have a lot of padding...), there are numerous other things to look into as well..

Tyre pressure, fork pressure / fork spring, fork compression, fork rebound, rear rebound and probably most of all - your technique.

It might sound like suicidal advice - but somewhere like BPW with a fair bit of speed and successive hits, you really need to "let go" of the handlebar. Holding on tight and fighting the bike is a sure fire recipe for soreness.

it probably is totally technique but how to learn and change.

I did find my air pressures were far too high. I dropped my forks to 40 psi and took 40psi out of my rear shock and it felt much better.

It must have been like riding a rigid bike if you had to take that much pressure out, jeez!

Padded shorts are for girls! Have used mine in 2 years, haven't even need them with my Charge spoon saddle even on 30mile rides. Such a comfy saddle!

That saddle was so uncomfortable i gave it to the wife to stick on her Pitch and i stole the generic specialized she had, best thing i ever did. funnily enough she says the Spoon is more comfortable, finding a good saddle is a pain in the arse literally.

I hate the feel of a padded short - feels like a poo in my pants.
I've sharted too many times before and it brings back awful memories

I'd never used padded under shorts until fairly recently..

Don't like the feel when not on the saddle and don't feel I need them for 2 or 3 hour rides but they do make a notable difference to me on 3hr plus rides.

hahahaha :D now I understand!

never sharted on the bike....

Edit: Tyres arrived! Only ordered Tuesday from Germany - not a bad turn around at all!
