Mountain Biking

And its now pretty much done!

Im proper happy with how its turned out to be fair.

I have a set of new 2.6 width tyres coming, these will raise the bottom crank collectively by 9.3mm making it just 5.7mm lower than it should be, this will hardly be noticeable given I also have 160mm travel in the front rather than 140/150mm so the cranks raised slightly as a result because of that. Good news as it means I don't need to swap the cranks out, thank god!

There's also a OneUp Chain guide/guard combo coming for piece of mind. It wasn't cheap but its cheaper than potentially shafting my crank/gear/bottom bracket or even the frame!

One thing I will say, as much as I can appreciate how good the SLX derailleur and shifter are, its grindy and feels like a bag of nails. I'm not convinced the bargain ebay chain was a real Shimano M7100 tbf. The finish is worse than the bargain basement £10 KMC I bought for the cooker and its mile behind the SRAM NX chain and its comparatively silky smooth gear changes and smooth operation. A new one will be picked up in the morning from halfords, from the places you can be sure to find a genuine chain, it also happens to be the cheapest, go figure!

Went to halfrauds, got a new chain, it’s removed 90% of the crunchy chatter from the front ring, now I just need to sort the rear a little. It isn’t quite as silky as the NX but part of me wonders if the old chain (new but fake) has done some damage, the wear to the brand new front ring from just 5 minutes of trying to set it up is terrifying.

Got 4 days BPW and 2 days dirt Farm coming up. Anyone been to Dirt farm since they redid bompah and added new trails? Haven't been this year so curious how it's running

Just got some Lightbicycle rims delivered today. Got some Hope Pro 5 hubs to get them laced to. They look pretty nice and are really light! Carbon EN933 32H 510g per rim. Service was great and would highly recommend if you're after some carbon rims.

Done a couple of things the last week, fitted a new Renthal Stem to the Scout and swapped out the Float X performance rear shock on the Status for an DHX2 Factory Coil.

Quite chuffed with both outcomes! :D

Are you sure that weight is correct? The XM481 I used are only 550g for a 30mm rim.
The lightweight carbon rims I have my eye on are more in the 300g range.

Yeah, they're probably the heaviest 33mm carbon rim they do, built for Enduro/DH/Ebike (or fattys like me....).

They offer rims from around 250g from XC style.

people do huge jumps on carbon rims?

  • Max Cyclist Weight (on flat ground): 125kg/ 276lbs

so lets say you weigh about 80kg and your bike about 15kg, your at 95kg would you still be riding off 5ft+ drops?

They don't sound so downhill/enduro friendly

Some dh guys use carbon rims, personally don't get the appeal. But then I break rims now and then and I've seen carbon rims break.

Just need to watch Arron gwinn to know ali rims still rule :D

I've got a set of 29" DT Swiss HXC 1200 wheels. 1022g rear, 900g front.
I don't jump but they're rated 140Kg and ASTM 4, which is only up to 120cm jumps/drops
