Mountain Mods U2-UFO or TJ-07?

That is a sweet little bit of kit. I dont think its possible to have one of them AND run the fans off 7V though unfortunately.

Sure you can, just 7V mod the Molex you plug into it and they will all be @ 7V, I've seen it done.

Also...VERY nice setup you have there! You and Clone have certainly convinced me I NEED a MM case. ;)

Agreed kablooey! I'd considered that too! :)

I'm fairly sure it would work - see no reason why it wouldn't anyway! ;)

Well its built now and I won't be taking it apart for some time to come.

Coming from a P180 which is supposedly a 'quiet case' I wasn't expecting the MM to be as quiet as it is. I never noticed my hard drive noise before and as they are spinpoints (regarded as one of the quietest hard drives) this shows how quiet this setup really is!

Thx for the very kind words everyone, Im certainly very, very happy with it atm :D

Hi

I have been followng this thread with great interest.

Over the next couple of months I plan to build myself a new watercooled rig. Haven't decided on all the componenets yet, but i have decided to get a Mountain Mods case. :D

My only concern is that I am not sure if 5 drive bays will be enough:

I will have 2 DVD's, fan controller, card reader and usb ports (keen photographer so i need the card reader), reservoir (maybe 2 if I decide to go dual loop) and XFI front bay (could probably get rid as I don't really use it).

I noticed that they do the U2-UFO OPTI 1203. What are peoples thoughts on these. Will they still offer the same amount of cooling that the U2-UFO does. I suppose it will probably be a bit more cramped in their with the radiator along the bottom. Does anybody have any pictures of a OPTI 1203 up and running?

What are peoples thoughts.

Cheers

You don't REALLY need reservoirs tbh - they just make bleeding easier and look nicer imo. You don't need to have bay reservoirs either - they come in all shapes and sizes. So you could have - 2xdvd,1xmultipanel (usb's and card reader), XFI front panel and your fan controller and 2 internal reservoirs in a UFO. The one thing that attracted me to the UFO is that you can have all the wires and cabling in one side while you can have all the good looking bits in the other - unobstructed and well cooled. The opti offers more bays but at a cost of looks and motherboard space, even though it is 3"cubed bigger than a UFO(due to the extra drivebays).

I think your right. Reservoirs will easily fit inside. Looks like I will go for the U2-UFO then.

Whats the best way of ordering these? From here in the UK or order direct from their website. I get the impression you can be waiting longer for the case if you order from the UK distributor. Anyone know what the import duty will be on one of these if I order it direct and how long they take to arrive?

Need to make a choise between the black or the red case...

I'm currently leaning towards the red one. Need to think what colours go well with red....

Cheers guys

well i have been following this thread with great interst, im thinking about getting a ufo the horision model, but i dont plan"yet" to go watercooled, i want a pleasnt looking case, with good views, , now the question is this.
1) Do i order from the uk competitor, and wait up to 6 weeks, pay a lot more, and god damnit a lot more.
2) order it direct get faster delivery, have enough monry to purchase drive covers fan grills ect ect, and hope and pray customs dont spot the big cube box.
looking for advice please guys.

thank you
EDIT: Btw guys very nice work, you are an inspiration.

there's not a lot of difference in price whether you order direct or from the UK, slightly dearer on avg when you import ....however you only have to wait about 2 weeks v 5-6+weeks.

the tinkering never stops LOL :) replaced my 'pushing' yate loons with my Xinruilians which push 97cfm @ 12v and work great with the Rheobus between 5-12v ...no humming etc. Still have another 3 blue yates on the inside of the PA120.3 pulling. The Xinruilians are VERY underrated fans imho and give me some extra cooling power when needed ...otherwise i can turn them off and leave the 3 yates pulling and still max 45c load with almost silence.

i kinda like the look better too, there was just a bit too much blue led for my tastes.

its very nice, and to be honest there is a great deal of differnce, ordering form the two, i was able to order all balnking covers, filters grills/ the plastic 80 mm covers and a bunch of over stuff and it stil worked out cheaper than the uk vers, ye si know ther eis us customs duty ect, im sure i have seen somewhere if you mention it is for a birthday presnt , they will mark it on the box, thus avoiding the customs, plus a mor eanoying featuer is this, for example on the one i want the horision, you can get differnt pannels, the one i want is only available direct, diamond top with four fans, you cant get it via the uk store.

On another note, a link poste dhere to another forum, shows a ufo in a different paint finish, a mtt one, i would have prefered that to the shiny powerder coat, since i have owned a shiny poweder coat pc case beofre, its a nitemare, ie its easy to get it chipped, it scraches easy , and you cant even touch the case, becuase of finger prints. any ideas ?
thank you

I prefer anodised aluminium over powder baked finishes, so I would choose the Lian-li cube although I know it isn't as pre-setup as the MM cases.

Setup looks great though guys. :)

i very much doubt MM will enter it as a 'gift' for customs, most businesses won't do this as the penalties for them are nasty.

trust me once you pay import/vat the cost evens up to within £20 but it's still worth importing.

the power coat on MM cases is great, very hard to scratch but it does show fingerprints easily.....it's not hard to remove them btw :)

the lian-li cube just didn't appeal at all ....this is coming from a guy whose last 2 cases were a V2000 and a PC-75 which i still have.

the v2000 was a nice case but for watercooling purposes, it just wasn't as big as it looks and it rattled/vibrated quite a bit w/out mods. :(

MM UFO is superior in build quality to anything i've ever used or seen, but you have to see and work with one in the flesh to understand why they're so nice.

i hope your rite lol, btw a quick question before i order mine tonight, i understand it doesnt come with any front cd bay covers is that correct, and finaly, does it come with hd racks to put hard drives in, i havent yet seen a review for the one i want, U2-UFO Horizon, i like the idea of being able to look through the top windows and being able to see my motherboard ect, making it kinda different.

Btw just looked at the lian li cube, not to bad, but i have to agree no way up to the same standards of a mm case, you have to add a lot of extras to make it worthwhile, ie clear sidepannel, top plexi calss, fan kits ect, but then to be honest its a server case so.......

what are the pros and cons of each mm case, ie duality, horision,U2-UFO,U2-UFO OPTI1203, this is the first time my wife has seen a computer case she has liked, since it will be going into the living room, btw guys she says they look like coffee tables, hmmz not sure about that one, but i gotta order tonight while she stil says i can have one, lol
thanks

Oh well i have just ordered mine, i went for the MountainMods U2-UFO Horizon - Black with 3 big windows, oh and some drive covers, and a set of MountainMods Acrylic Feet. then to top it of i ordered a nice Enermax Galaxy 850W EGA850EWL ATX2.2 Modular PSU.

wife is gonna kill me oh well, off to bed now since its late, erm early. cant wait now

EDIT: I just hope that psu will fit into that case now!!!!

Custom`s got me for £51 import, but with all the extra`s i still saved money.

Temp is 22c with E6600 @ 3.5ghz even with all three waterblocks  ,god bless MM :)
Would be nice if we could start a sticky on the forum about the ufo build so to help other people out.

Any questions just ask away as there is a few people here got this type of case.

most ppl who've seen my UFO don't have a clue what it is, one girl though it was something to do with audio......guess she thought the fan grills were speakers :p :D

even my mrs was impressed with it and she normally doesn't notice anything, albeit they are hard to 'blend' in without notice.

I knew i had forgotton something, fans/grills/ and lights, thats what i get for ordering it so early in the morning, i guess the quest continues, any ideas guys on fans grills, and a fan light controler?
many thx
