I think it's going to be one of those things where you wont really be sure on the spending until 3 months. Things like BT bill will be every 3 months too wont it? We're not really the type to buy a take away for the sake of it. Id rather drive to where ever and buy one for £2/3 instead of £15...seems a waste

Always assume the expenses will be higher than you think by at least 20%.
Then add a random £100 for X social event/something breaking/family birthday/anniversary at least per month.
The Minimum wage unfortunately isn't a living wage - my outgoings leave me with about £1,500 a month & even I sometimes surprise myself with random expenses which really cut into my funds (OK, I do earn more than my partner & help her out when her car goes wrong - but these things need to be accounted for).

250 a month is LOW for food for 2 people, and unrealistic for all your grocery......girls are not cheap to maintain, just go into your girlfriends bathroom and take a look at the Haircare, Oral Care, Female Deodorants & Body Sprays, Sanitary Towels & Tampons, Beauty & Skincare, Hair Removal!!!! the list goes on.
Then you got all the lovely surprises like boilers blowing, and cars not passing MOT.....last month alone we had £400 go out that we didn't/couldn't budget for.
Im sure it can be done, but stressing out over money is REALLY not good for a relationship, but as long as you both have realistic expectations of how hard it is setting up home you are already at an advantage.

Indeed, I find add 20% then add another 100/200 is usually closer to how much it's going to cost.
Everyone is making a remark on how bad your life is going to be with all the bills and how you're not calculating right! Common guys, he's only asked for some advice!

It's *always* a good idea to budget everything, otherwise you end up spending a bit here and a bit there, and suddenly you've overspent and you have no idea where the money has gone.
A good tip is to track *everything* you spend for a month. And I mean *everything*, down to the last penny. It's surprising what you end up spending money on. It was quite a shock when I worked out how much money I was spending in Starbucks each month.

No it's not. Me and the missus spend less than £250 on average and we don't have to scrimp in any way. We're just sensible. I bet we eat better than a fairly large majority of people.
Insurance for the house would be somthing you should add
Repairs is somthing you should add unless its furnished (car, washer cooker hoover ect)
If he has a TV, it's necessary.
I spend about £200-£250 a month on food just for me, but that's eating at the works canteen every day.

cleaning products, toiletries, other misc groceries.. it all adds up, £250 is not enough unless you are going to be really miserly

You have to budget EVERYTHING. Not just regular purchases. And track your expenses and see if you're busting your budget or on target.
From the OP's list he has missed out untold.
Contraception for starters so a few packs of dobbers a month will be required or she'll be up the spout not working & you'll have 3 people to feed/house etc
On top of that you need at least 200 quid a month in your own pocket that she don't know about otherwise life will be hell buying all the **** "you need" rather than having some fun money in your own pocket.
