Mr Olympia 2006

I wonder if ronnie will be able to come back from this and take the title for a record ninth time now, hes not young anymore and i cant see Jay going easy because hes finally won it, hes going to want to hold it for a few more years.

Will be interesting to see. The only thing bigger than Coleman is his ego :p

Arnie wanted to look like that and won seven times. Look where he is and what he has done.

Not to mention first and second spots rake in some serious cash.

There are a couple of things I don't like about the IFBB and competetive bodybuilding which include the steroid use and politics of competitons such as Mr.O. The competitors and fans want it seen as a genuine sport but I think it'll never be so if they aren't natural. But ho hum.

As far as the competition last night, in my opinion Jay had the best package. Sure, Ronnie has more mass overall, great arms, but Jay beats his lat spread, his delts and leg conditioning. however, I do have to admit that Jay's abs look horrendous.

I love bodybuilding and as much as i understand the dedication and hard graft these pro's put into their workouts and diet, i have little respect for steroid junkies :(

Frank Zane is the only Olympia winner i could look to for inspiration.

Steroid Junkies? your making it out that steroid use is as bad as heroine use. Nothing wrong with steroids at all, do what you can to win, its not cheating because steroids are not magic beans.

Frank Zane was geared up as well, so why do you look at him for inspiration when you have no respect for "Steroid Junkies"?

Well done to jay Cutler though, I havnt looked at the pics yet but he must have been in awsome condition to beat coleman. I wonder if this is the start of a new era?

Also why are people even commenting on this thread when they either dont like bodybuilding or think these guys are disgusting?

Of the people who are knocking BB on here, how many of you actually know a great deal about the sport or what goes into it exactly?

Why, do you need to know what goes into it to dislike the way they look?

Calm down mate :)

No it would just be nice for a little respect. Obviously you don't like the way they look and that is your opinion. I believe they are too big nowadays yes. I think BB of Arnie's era are much better looking as they don't look so large. But I respect the work they've put in and the graft it takes,

I didn't say calm down

I'm perfectly calm thanks. I just don't see why I should respect someone for doing that to themselves. Should I respect the aforementioned people that get tattoos and such?

lol sorry that was my mistake writing in the wrong place :p

Fair point. Opinions differ. I hate the way madly tattooed people look but I do respect that it's what they want to do to themselves. That's all I was saying.

Jay's abs are ****ed up, but his lats and traps and chest are better than Colemans.

They may take steroids but you need good genes to become as well defined as that. I still don't see the attraction in being that big though. Everyday tasks become a lot harder when you don't have complete movement in your arms and legs.

I don't agree with steroids but I do understand that it still takes an epic amount of time and hard work to reach these levels.

Ronnie was off. Simple as that. His play for mass finally got him in the conditioning department and his injuries that he'd never talk about were just too apparent. This year he was extremely cocky aswell, bob chic asked him what he would do if he lost and he said "stop asking me stupid questions, im not gonna lose".

I feel bad for him. But he didnt need to come in at 300lbs, 270-280 would have looked better even with the injuried.

Looks like he got a little cocky, but he's always been like that. 300lbs is too heavy for Coleman at competition weight.

I've got to say that body building or bulking up in any way gets no respect form me in any form.
Pointless waste of time.

Do as you want with your body, but dont expect me to be coming up and tweaking your guns in wide eyed wonderment.

What do you do in your spare time?

Yeah me too, and me too. It just looks awful and I can't see why anyone would want to look like that. Mental.

Takes all sorts :)

I'm betting its an emotional problem. Their bodies are pretty abnormal, but they get such attetion and what they see as social status from the practice.

Emotional like a footballer wants to play for the greatest club and earn the most, in the way an F1 driver wants to be the fastest, or how a tennis player wants all the grand slams in one year?

Do you like Rugby? Are there bodies abnormal from the tears in there ears or missing fingers?

They all want to be the best.

Bodybuilders? They do it because they enjoy it and want to be the best.

Thats your opinion and your entitled to it, but others love bodybuilding and bulking up, same as others like cars, motorbikes, rugby ect. Each to their own, if we were all the same the world would be boring.

At the end of the day though, at this level its these guys jobs, so they have to be as big and ripped as possible, or as other see it as "abnormal" as possible
Maybe they did start of doig it for the attention and the social status, but at his stage in their careers its their life and how they pay the bills (for a lot of them anyway)

Anyway, hasnt coleman had a torn tricep? If this is the case no wonder he wasnt at his best this time around. Injury free I still think he is the best. Well done to jay tho, if anyone should win it it's him, he has come very close on a number of occasions now, only a matter of time before he won it.

I don't know whats more disturbing the fact his muscle tone makes him look like he's got some kind of growth on his right upper chest or his trunks are starting to ride up his crack.

Exactly. These guys don't do this for a recreational activity, there are huge rewards for being the best and I'm not just talking about the huge cash prize. There have only been 11 winners since the competitions birth in 1965 and one of those winners went on to become one of the highest paid actors in Hollywood and finally the governer of California. As the yanks say 'Go figure'.

As far as bodybuilding goes, Mr Olympia is like what the world cup is to football. The Mr Olympia winner is arguably the most muscularly defined person on the planet. It takes determination, blood, guts, unreal genes and great sportsmanship to get that far. Hell, one of the reasons why I follow mr.o is to see who is the best in the world and secondly, the intense rivalry between Cutler and Coleman. It's like supporting England, its an emotion rollercoaster.

Unfortunately it hasnt broken into the mainstream as a bonefide sport probably due to a number of factors which include steroid use, politics and it's image.

The idea that people think that the top BB's look freaky is strange for me to comprehend, it's like saying Ronaldinho's football is too technical. These guys have insane muscularity which I can only admire. After all, it takes an extra-ordinary person to become a world champion of anything.
