Mr Olympia 2006

You guys who dont move stuff for a living, why bother?
I don't jump around, flip, do acrobatics for a living, doesn't stop me enjoying doing gymnastics and getting better, learning new tricks.
I don't fight people for a living, does that mean I can't continue to do my wushu/muay thai?
I don't spend all day hittings things with a bat, can I keep playing softball?

Why does anyone do anything?

Man what a load of rubbish that is. People do it because they want to, what is wrong with that? What a rubbish world it would be if everyone was the same and liked the same things.

With regards to arm size etc for a lot of people believe it or not that doesn't matter. What matters is getting the size right for themselves. A lot of these people take great care in what they look like and so if that's what they want go for it.

I do it becuase it is my hobby. I love it. It gives me the best rush and the feeling of beating your personal bests in the gym in excellent. You know you've achieved something and it's been all you that's done it. Training with a mate is great fun as well because you never want to fail you always want to beat them.

People do it because they want to. You can't judge people on that. I bet you do things that many people would think are a waste of time but wouldn't mosey on down and post silly comments on here.

Quoted for the delicious bits of truthiness.

I go to the gym these days and do both weights and a lot of cardio stuff. Some people play computer games in their spare time, who does that help? Why waste their time? It's so pointless! Well it's not actually, if that's what they enjoy doing, if that's what keeps them entertained and if they want to work to a goal by beating the next level, god for them, a sense of personal achievement has been gained. It's EXACTLY the same with weight lifting for me, not only do i get a nice toned body but i get to go meet a load of new people and really enjoy myself for 2 hours of the day.

No, i'm saying who are they?
You dont need to look like that to be hugely strong, you dont look nice at the end of it, so its pointless.

Maybe not but who wants to look like that:

When you can look like this:

lol Ross Glenn or is it Glenn Ross, I don't really care, he lives about 2 miles from me. He's not that big in real life*, used to drive one of the smallest cars he could fit into, it was like a comedy sketch watching him drive around in it. lol :)

Edit: And the scary thing is, they're probably both around the same weight, but just look at the difference in their bodies.

Scrap that, just looked up his weight, Glenn Ross is at least 120lbs heavier, but I find the 6ft1 bit hard to believe.

*just to clarify, I'm comparing him in real life to his stats

Zane did use drugs aswell as everyone at that time. We've made advancements in the past 30 years, the size game became more and more visible throughout the 90s. The last few years of bodybuilding have been dominated by size but that will slowly change. I'm not a fan of ronnie coleman as he looks now. His 98 physique was the best, the same with Jay Cutler, his 2001 physique was his best. They added 20-30 lbs and lost the aesthetics they once had.

This is Phil Heath. You may not believe but he is only 215lbs compared to the monsters that weigh 270lbs. This guy is the talk of the town and will surely be the next mr olympia. He is like the flex wheeler of tomorrow.

Damn, how tall is that guy? Im a lean 230lbs, and he looks much bigger than me, but I guess it's all to do with proportion?

I've stood beside him and didn't think he looked 30 stone, maybe he didn't when I seen him, plus I doubt he's even 6ft never mind 6ft1. But still a very strong guy but I can't picture him living very long carrying that weight around.

when i was 21 stone i was constantly told i didnt look it, same now im 18.5st, not just saying it out of politeness, but genuine shock to my weight.

True, some people just carry weight better than others. Don't get me wrong, Glenn Ross is a very big guy but when I seen him in person I thought he would be a lot bigger. He's genuinely a very nice guy and gets a lot of respect here because of his charity work. :)

I believe Jay and Ronnie new the results before even getting out there. You could see it on Ronnie's face.

Yeah was gonna say that, he looked like he knew he lost already

But yeah they look incredible bit wierd and maybe over the top, but for what there going for it is incredible, serious respect for them for putting the work in

After reading up more about these guys, some of them abuse HGH (human growth hormone) so badly that it makes their bones / heads grow bigger. You should see some of these freaks, they are absolutely disgusting looking, and 100 % obsessed by their appearance, like some kind of mental disease. a lot of them aren't even strong / athletic, despite the way they look.

That's why natural is the way to go mate. But I still have a lot of respect for these guys. Take Greg Valantino (Mr Synthol). He abused a substance way too much and look what happened.

Now THAT is disgusting.

Thats not steroids in the second set of pictures though, its synthol. Basically he's injecting himself with oil.

Using synthol is different to juicing and only used by morons.

i bet your a bag of fun in the pub. i can see conversations about peoples life outside of work would be quite boring for you.

No, i just dont see the point of body building, end of story.
I can see the point in generally keeping fit, i can see the point in martial arts training, jogging, working to keep the fat off, even..........................boxersise.

But not body building.

But we cant have a proper debate about things on here without resorting to taking a point to the absolute limit can we?
I cant see the point in body building, ergo i cant see the point in anything?

Yes well done i dont like Renault Clio's ergo i dont like cars full stop.
I dont like Arsenal and liverpool, ergo i dont like football or anything associated with it.

Get a grip for gods sake.

Absolutely correct it's not a steroid. Just used as an example that people who abuse things are idiots, like Valentino. He looked great before.
