Mr Olympia 2006

That's incredible to look so big at only 215lbs, he must be quite short but very impressive.

edit: just looked up his height, he's taller than I thought.

TBH, I can never tell a bodybuilder who looks good. Muscles are generally all over the place, look at the present Mr O's abdominal.

Who is to say one of those monsers looks better than the other when they all look odd anyway...

Although I must admit I do love Arnold's Physique, but think I prefer it when he had lost some size and was doing movies.

Are you trying to say that you are the world's strongest man in your spare time?

I'm guessing that atpbx is saying that he is more of a powerlifting fan.

As am I, but I can't help but respect the amount of work that goes into building such a physique.

Blimey, that Phil Heath looks a lot bigger than 215lbs being that he is 5'9". That is about my height and weight

Whos the worlds strongest man at the minute?

And who holds the world record for say............. the Dead lift?

So it is you Mr Pudzianowski! Possibly the most juiced-up strongman ever!

What has this got to do with BB? Powerlifting and Bodybuilding are different animals completely..and guys who excel at powerlifting in any form are no more healthy than bodybuilders really. Both suffer statistically higher heart problems in later life than others.

Personally the shape these guys achieve doesn't float my boat at all but I respect the work taken to get them there.Anabolics aren't a magic wand you know..it takes hard work and excellent genetics (in the form of basic muscle length and structure) to get to their level. If it was only the 'Roids then half the pea-brained,juiced-up knuckleheads in gyms the world over would be competing.

See this is what bodybuilding needs to be about. The illusion of size, Flex Wheeler was a master at this because his joints were so tiny and he had such full muscle bellies. Just as Phil Heath does. Small waist, small joints, perfectly balanced physique AND Phil doesnt lack calves like most bodybuilders of today.

This is Phil Heath. You may not believe but he is only 215lbs compared to the monsters that weigh 270lbs. This guy is the talk of the town and will surely be the next mr olympia. He is like the flex wheeler of tomorrow.
Is there any place for taller guys in professional bodybuilding? They look big with the muscle, then you realise that virtually none of them even hit 6 foot, why is that? Is it just not possible to put enough mass on a larger frame to look "good" enough to compete?

Coleman is 5'11" and damn he'd look good if he was 6'1", 6'2".

Gary Strydom was 6' I believe, Arnold claimed to be 6', Gunter Schlierkamp is 6'1 and 300lbs on stage. Lou Ferrigno was 6'4, Paul Dillet was a tall guy. Thing is the taller guys have always lacked the structural aesthetics. And yes with todays mass game its quite impossible to fill a frame that big. Gunter has come in 305lbs at the Olympia, the only guy previously to beat Ronnie Coleman, but still he doesnt hold as much mass as the shorter guys. If you go by mass per inch.

There are a lot of guys who fall in the 5'6 to 5'11 category that have great genetics.

Someone care to give me a detailed breakdown as to how a judge can find either of those monsters is somehow better?

I just dont understand what they look for...

Well theres your problem, you have to be a fan of bodybuilding to understand how it works, you have to be a fan of muscle to know what its about.

Its like someone telling me how great football is when I cant stand to watch it. Or how some people prefer a curvy girl over an athletic one. Its all about preference.

When it comes to judging these guys well first of all they went for mass, two of the biggest guys ronnie and jay are at the top. Conditioning is an important factor, this is where ronnie was lacking this year and Jay stood out. Getting rid of the fat, the water to a point that all the cross striations are showing in the quads. Ofcourse they are looking for symmetry between left and right sides but also between each muscle groups. Structure is extremely important. Then you are compared against the other guys and whether you look better than they do.

Its hard for someone who doesnt like bodybuilding to judge a physique. Takes years of eyeing up the physiques to also know whos a top contender and who isnt.

No, i'm saying who are they?
Then if we we not all trying to be clever you would name them, then i would answer, do they look like that (no they dont not even close) then i would then say, so whats the point?

You dont need to look like that to be hugely strong, you dont look nice at the end of it, so its pointless.

Its like you see these guys pumping away at the gym, hour on end trying to chase bigger arms and such, its a waste of time.

What kind of size biceps do people have on here with their hours of training have?
What size thighs?
How has it improved your lives any?
Not a lot i would say.
Where at any point in your life would it be nessasary to lift 200 kilos up to your chest or over your head?
I'm relatively strong, i can lift 125 kilos or something up to my chest in a crate, i can lug stuff about, but outside of work............ i dont even come close to being stressed.
You guys who dont move stuff for a living, why bother?

Man what a load of rubbish that is. People do it because they want to, what is wrong with that? What a rubbish world it would be if everyone was the same and liked the same things.

With regards to arm size etc for a lot of people believe it or not that doesn't matter. What matters is getting the size right for themselves. A lot of these people take great care in what they look like and so if that's what they want go for it.

I do it becuase it is my hobby. I love it. It gives me the best rush and the feeling of beating your personal bests in the gym in excellent. You know you've achieved something and it's been all you that's done it. Training with a mate is great fun as well because you never want to fail you always want to beat them.

People do it because they want to. You can't judge people on that. I bet you do things that many people would think are a waste of time but wouldn't mosey on down and post silly comments on here.
