MSI GTX780 Lightning due 07/08/13

Was going to get one of these but not for that price. I've had terrible luck with cards that are promoted as some of the best overclockable models in the past. W3bbo's £460 Gigabyte OC 780 is screaming at me in the MM.

Did you get my email suarez? :)

The big appeal for these for me was the voltage, now that can be done on any ncp4206 card that appeal has faded slightly. Time will tell I suppose.

Lol @ the email msi just sent me about the lightning launch...'oc certified, no limits!!' Surely they should have a disclaimer when touting the 'no limit' thing again

It looks pretty much as I thought, for Extreme Overclockers this is obviously the best card available but for the other 99.9% that don't use LN2 there is much less of an advantage.
The Use of Elpida memory really surprises me for this lower volume Ultra high-end card also.

With this available 1.3v hack for Titans and 780's, I just don't see so much appeal for the person who just wants to have a couple of quick Banzai Benchmark runs.

Thanks to advice on here, I managed to unlock my reference gigabyte 780's voltage to a max of 1.31V. Pretty sweet and squeezed a bit more out of it in terms of OC.

Have to say, the EK full PCB water block (titan version) on it is superb. Never seen such good watercooling on a GPU (38C max temp at load at 1.31C and 1300MHz core). There was a test I saw recently which showed the EK waterblock was somehow a better performer for Titans/780s compared to other popular blocks. Could push quite a bit higher than 1.31V but limited by the hack at the moment.

^^
It's that hack that makes me reluctant to shell out the extra £100 for this card over reference, and if i were to go reference i'll feel somewhat cheated as i could have had the damn card ages ago :(

Couple that with the fact i'm working longer and longer hours (good thing btw) meaning i get even less time to tinker and play, got a huge backlog of things to do already so even if i did buy the card the chances are it'll be sitting in the box for a few weeks doing diddly :D (Still got the 680SOC blocked up raring to go, but not had the time! FF14 and work getting in the way)

EK blocks have always been the very top performers, even if they did have their nickel issues a few years back, iirc their thermal performance is only matched by watercool and aquacomputer, while nothing touches them for flow :)

I'm in the same boat tone, the hack has really shaken things up!

This just got interesting

MSI GeForce GTX 780 Lightning PLIMIT BIOS download V29611L1 released

This is the 'enthusiast' BIOS for GeForce GTX 780 Lightning owners that free up a couple of limitations.
Simply put the card in LN2 mode and flash this BIOS into it.
After you updated the firmware the Power Limiter of the card can now be set at 300%

Do you feel it, Crawford?

Turn it off.

Edward! Shut it off!

Never!

Can't you feel it, Crawford?

In the mind.

The mind!

It's out of control,

you've got to turn it off!

No, I want to see more...

more than any man has ever seen!
