Multirotor, multicopter and quadcopter discussion - The Drone thread

Bought a load of FPV gear for delivery this coming week; Mobius with normal lens, 200mw vtx and vrx, circular polarised antenna, new 7" 800x480 screen (old one was dim and half that red). Really looking forward to playing with it all, not that I have any time anyway :/

In other news, found new love for my Hubsan X4, now that I've found a source for cheap and quick delivery props (www.buzzflyer.co.uk). Also bought a prop guard for a couple of quid. It does make it a bit heavier and reduces flight time a touch, but also makes the X4 near indestructible and reduces the chance of damaging props, so worth it for me, as I mostly fly it indoors. Also found that the Turnigy 300mah batteries hobbyking sell for about $2.50 in the UK wearhouse work great with a minor mod - simply swap the + and - plug leads

I wired up my SecurityCamera2000 today. FPV is MUCH better after suggested tweaks.

Attached my GoPro which recorded some nice footage, even without a gimbal.

GPS attitude does have a tendency to go mental in any sort of wind... my P2 was at about 20* most of the time one way or another. It seems to stick for some reason, even after a few IMU calibrations. Flying in ATTI was much better, although harder work when heading back upwind from a turn.

I'm lookng at better wiring solutions so I can chop and change. I took apart the P2 today to make wiring tidy but I think bullet style connectors may be better in the long run.

Also - the GPS connector in my P2 doesn't have a locking tag - WTF? I jammed something in there to stop it from moving.

I think I'm going to get a 600mw vTx and an H3-2D once the prices come down. The H3-3D is £££ and keeps getting the legs in shot if you do any aggressive turning.

God the Vision Plus looks fantastic! I want one even more now! and £800 direct from DJI in Shenzhen, with two batteries!! Trouble is, I'm going to need to upgrade to a new phone - My S2 won't run the software. This year is going to be expensive!!

Where did you see that price?

Looking at their website, €1148 including shipping, with one battery?

Very tempted to get one though, what are the regs on what you can/can't film?

Obviously flying over a prison etc is going to result in trouble but are there any other issues? Staying away from motorways too I imagine?

Generally, if you think "this could get me in trouble", it probably could. Use your loaf and you'd be fine (mostly). I'd suggest BMFA memnership, but not bothered myself and my local model aircraft clubs are all fuddy duddies and most unwelcoming tbh

With the new firmware for the Vision/Plus, there are restrictions in place where you can't fly within 5 miles of airports. It's peeing off a lot of people and they are rolling back to the last one.

Having a bit of a drama de-soldering the gryo on my APM, has anyone successfully done it? Any tips?

Given that the replacement I am using doesn't need the solder pads of the original I'm tempted to cut it off but I'd like to be able to revert in case my replacement is no good for some reason

Makes sense i suppose, I think the main issue would be making sure not to fly it inside any sort of fence / land where access is blocked because it could become stranded...

Going to see what happens with prices towards the summer i think, Vision+ has definitely caught my eye...

It does look nice. Ive had my Vision for 3 months and altho I like it I would like DJI to release a gimbal for it like they have on the Plus. It would make it that much better.

But I guess, like most things, when you buy something its not long before its out of date.

A short clip from the weekend testing out my new brushless gimbal, still got a lot of tuning to do on the APM board to get it flying right as it is just running on default settings at the moment

I got FPV and BMFA membership but yes, I've tried applying to the local flying club and they ignored me. Looking at the site, the old fuddy duddy image is definitely there!

As a result I fly in large open green spaces (which are public) but have to land if people start turning up and are in going to be within 100m of the quadcopter.

"I say, we don't want any of these new-fangled quadvelociraptor thingies around here. Only proper aircraft, what what!"

Can anyone help a div?

Took my vision out today and got a couple of 'control signal lost' messages. I'm assuming it's the wifi extender that's doing it. It's pointed at the Vision and charged but I can't understand why I'm getting the errors. Google ain't much help :(
