Multirotor, multicopter and quadcopter discussion - The Drone thread

Very tidy :) I see you still have your feet... Not trying hard enough :p

I am considering what to do with mine, as landing on the lipo isn't very clever. Want to trade up to something like the QAV250 but the price!

Also, got my home made VTX up and running. On the bench it performs exactly like the Boscam VTX that so many use (me included) but is about 1/4 the size and 1/10th the weight :D Hope to get some range testing done at the weekend, weather permitting

I have the same ammo can. just make sure you remove the rubber seal. you dont want it to be air tight, can turn it into a bomb with pressure building up.
loads of videos of these ammo boxes ripping apart, when lippo catches fire they dont need oxygen to keep burning and the pressure builds up. ;)

Thanks for this post, I have been storing 3 lipos at home in one and I have the lid all sealed up. I know what I will be doing when I get home from work tonight.

I was watching an episode of Gold Rush on Discovery last night which showed how they film it

Turns out they are using hexacopters for a lot of aerial work now, they even showed a clip of the hex's first outing where it went out of control and got smashed to bits!

Had a scary moment earlier! Forgot I'd set in the A2 software to return home at 150m (never need to go over that for anything work-related) and we went over it. It started to return to home but as I'd forgot that's what it was doing I thought we had a fly away.

It got to above us and as I thought it might carry on in a moment of panic I switched from GPS Atti to Manual, and the craft stalled! Like, literally all the motors turned off and it dropped for a split second before I switched it back into GPS Atti and it span up again.

Christ, it was proper heart in mouth! But why would it kill the rotors when switching to manual anyway?

I lost a few feet but borrowed some from a spare frame :) If you look closely at some of the led pictures I've attached a ziptie from the arm to the feet that allows them to break off on impact but stay attached!

Can you share the VTX details? I'm still waiting for my Mobius from banggood, over a month now :(

I need to rebuild the 250 now get rid of the PDB and the banana connectors, it needs to go on a diet! I bodged on a old point and shoot camera to it yesterday on a metal tripod base, was probably running the whole thing around 650g-700g, it went up but didn't like stopping on the way down. Heavy landing & test over lol.

Vtx is a TX5823 5.8ghz bare module, supposedly 200mw but from reading round is probably <100mw in reality. Simply powered off the same buck that powers my Mobius (5v). Unsure if it'll magic smoke on my as there is 5 and 3.3v versions floating about and nothing on this one indicates what voltage its expecting :p

I got a really nice pdb with my Naze32 mini recently, its ~2g and 36x36mm iirc, will be using it in my next teardown/rebuild. I'll grab the name from it later, I'm sure I've seen these sold for a couple of USD

E: I did the same with the feet then went to glue and forgot about them. Brought her in from a bit of bramble slaloming and two were missing! No idea how, as the remaining two were locked in like **** :p Binned the other two, no chance of finding the lost ones and I either land very well or upside down, so feet are a little moot most of the time!

Operations Manual all approved, just waiting to hear from the flight examiner to get the last bit done now.

Just received a really nice email from my local model club, unlike your experiences they seem really friendly and happy to accommodate all types of flying! :) They even invited me to come along to a night flying even to show of the LEDs on the quad! Thumbs up!

They're not suitable for commercial work but for fun/hobbyist they're both fine.

We're selling a Fatshark Predator v2 that I can stick on MM if you're thinking of buying one.

Got an order I had almost forgotten about. Wanted to try a micro receiver with CPPM to save a bit of space/wight/mess of cables on my 250... It's TINY :p
