Multirotor, multicopter and quadcopter discussion - The Drone thread

The FPV250 is finally finished, and to watch it take off is a great feeling :)

Ive only hovered it indoors and Im going to get about 5 mins of flight so im going to have to get some better batteries.

I love it :)

...

Can you put up a complete parts list for that?

Thanks

Are there any alternatives to hobby king for UK buyers, or are they the best value in choice of parts and price?

HK do have UK stock on some items, but it's patchy. They simply are the cheapest and best stocked. Others out there include myrcmart.com (pricey shipping and duty to worry about) banggood.com (not specifically an RC shop, range not great, free shipping on everything, but again duty). There are a few more boutique style web stores popping up in the UK though, mostly centring around mini quads, but their pricing can rarely compete with China and obviously they don't have the range of stock

Thanks :) Did you use the KK Flight controller?

Yes. With delivery it was about £35.

Also broke one of my props today. I'm grounded for a few days now :(

d_brennen - I missed your post on previous page. Im looking at different propellers and batteries atm (ive jotted down what you recommended) . Ive ordered some of the same that I have to keep me going but I will change them once I know what Im doing :). Ive also glued the feet in. Not sure if its a good idea but didnt want them falling out in flight.

* just ordered 2 pairs of HQ 5040 props. Only a few quid, Ill see how they perform *

This RC hobby is good but can be VERY expensive :D

Having just seen the Google Cardboard thing from IO, is there anything that could use a phone for FPV goggles? I expect not as phones won't support the technology and frequency used for FPV, but just a thought?

Not for a long while. The fpv stuff widely used is analogue while phones are obviously digital. There would be problems of signal processing delay

There's a raffle going on over at multi-rotor.co.uk forums for a ZMR C250 mini h carbon frame. £1 each. The frames are really good, bit of a knockoff of the old Blackout Mini H design (rather than the current one) and well worth a quid bet and registering if you haven't already! Any profits from the raffle will go to the upkeep of the forum*

I cant recommend the LED strips enough for orientation, my strips with wiring and JST are just over 10g so doesn't add much to it. The green ones are the brightest and good for the back, blue second brightest, then white then red. I'm using 2x green on the back, blue on front left arm, red of front right.

As you know we've got an S1000 (and the Phantom still) but I'm thinking about getting something tiny/cheap/to play with as more of a hobby. I loved building and tinkering with the above models but they're a bit too involved and dangerous to just take out and fly as a hobby.

I know the Husban X4 is well recommended but will I just get annoyed with it coming from the bigger boys? I still want something that has GPS Atti. mode and involves a bit of tinkering. Maybe a build my own would be better, but don't want to spend a lot. Really like the idea of the build-your-own frames out of MDF/whatever but don't know where to start.

Any thoughts?
