Multirotor, multicopter and quadcopter discussion - The Drone thread

What's everyone's thoughts on failsafe mode, I was going to set mine at just enough throttle to let it descend slowly. But then wondering if this is a good idea because if it lands upside down it would ruin the motors as they continue to spin?

Using telementry so hopefully shouldn't need to use it anyway, I hope!

It's a tricky one.. if you using Naza you can use RTH. Without return to home though not sure what is best. Descend slowly wouldn't be great over a forest or water. At least if it hovered you could run towards it to re-establish radio. Like you say though with telemetry shouldn't need it :) (Taranis yells at you when RSSI gets low, and that is with only 2/3rds potential range used up)

Think I will put it just below hover, I'm not using the Taranis. But I got the FrSky LCD for my 9XR and swapped my RX for a FrSky X8R and set it to alarm. Think I will test it out though before flying though.

This is how my antenna was mounted

Its probably on the cusp tbh. My carbon 250 (same as Raz's) AIW seems to be the same if I remove the mobius from my unscientific "pick it up with two fingers" measurements.

That is

Zippy 1500mah + Mobius = Turnigy 2200mah with no recording

Awesome little frames though, so much more room than on a standard FPV250. It would be worth trying out some HQ 5040 carbon reinforced props next to both the 5030 and 6030s, I suspect they will give noticeably more oomph than even the latter. These props were a revelation to me tbh

Just ordered some of the HQ5040 props. Hope they don't get the little motors too hot.

just ordered one of those frames myself although I'm going with the dys BE1806 motors they have rather than the 1804 for a bit more grunt

for anyone else buying from bg use code goodbg to save 5% :)

I wish i got those motors too after reading this and this :( I might have to get some next payday and use the ZMR's on something i don't plan to fpv.

Here's mine until I switch the motors and add fatshark FPV, will also switch props back to the HQ5040 when the new motors are on. AUW is 489g.

Turnigy 1704 outrunner motors (swapping for DYS 1806)
Plush 10A ESC's
KK2.1.5 using Steveis firmware v17S1
Mobius camera
FrSky X8R RX
Gemfan 5030 x3 Props (will go back to HQ5x4 props when got the bigger motors on)
Turnigy 9XR TX with FrSky LCD for telemetry
Nano-Tech 1500mah 25-50C 3S batteries

Thanks Genoma, yeah I thought I would order one of them for a spare and a few more batteries the same time as the motors.

@d_brennan I think you're right but did read somewhere that the DYS has slightly thicker coil wire than one of the other brands but don't know if that's true.

Is lubricating motors a good idea? Seems like a lot of people on RC groups do it.

Ash one of mine was making some grinding noises and I dropped some GT85 on it, seems to be fine. Not sure if lubrication is a regular requirement though.

Has anyone seen the drone/FPV recovery systems?

It's a parachute with a small computer to sense the fall.

A local RC guy has one and also a gps tracker incase it goes missing.

Comes down to luck my last order I had to pay tax etc ended up costing more for parts then it would have done ordering the items on ebay (UK sellers)

How much did you get stung for? Having spent quite a while sourcing things in the UK before bailing I found that it was looking at least 50% more than from HK. So even being hit by VAT and some additional import tax it should still be cheaper.
