Multirotor, multicopter and quadcopter discussion - The Drone thread

TBH, they are only 19 Euros each, but the postage from Germany adds on a bit! And the weight saved is kinda offset by then either having to use an FC that will handle raw battery volts or add in a BEC so pros and cons as always.....

I doubt I will be using them on the spider quad. More likely to be the emax simon series ones I suspect, as weight wont be so much of an issue and they are half the price!

Gonna use the excess sunnyskies I have, possibly a 4s battery and the SuperX flight controller I also have unused at the mo. GPS/FPV goodness.

My poor Cloverleaf antenna is looking pretty mashed now too, so that will need to be replaced soon.

I quite liked your stubby one... Was it causing problems?

It was a cheapo antenna from HK, which to be fair worked amazingly well on my 450 and tricopter. On the 250 I'd get random video drops and mad interference once in a while, obviously not from ESCs or power as it was 100% most of the time. I found out by process of elemination that the vRX was moving due to vibration/prangs and either the connector or the aerial was coming into contact with the edges of the frame. I guess the shaft is ground and the lobes are live or something (RF eludes me) and it was shorting out. I could have hard mounted it, but I don't want to snap anything in a crash, I'd rather it's tossed loose (I've de-tabbed the connectors too, so they slide out in a crash). The new ones I have are completely enclosed in plastic sheath and the connector shaft is heat shrinked so that problem is sorted.

TBH when the EMAX SS 12a ESCs are stripped naked and de wired (they come with mahoosive motor wires and pretty decent length DC wires, not to mention really heavy duty shrink), whey weigh very little.

Will be interested to see if...
...
c) how much more fun it is to fly crash than the quad

Moar motors mar powa. TBH I's only be interested in a mini hex if it were proven to be more efficient for longer flight time. Mini quads can have more than enough punch for my (lack of) ability :p

For my next project I'm considering a 450 type quad and some sort of GPS autonomy with preset waypoints lifting my sj400 camera.

What FC should I consider. Full naze seems cheap but I get mixed views on GPS functionality.

Probably apm I'd imagine. I think it has fairly good GPS support. Have you had a look at the harakiri firmware for the naze? Apparently much better for GPS although not sure it dies waypoints.

timecop don't like GPS, so don't count on mainstream Naze32 GPS support any time soon. APM would my first thought. Seems to be lots of mini APM boards on the market these days. Then there is Naza, if you just want plug and play at a cost

Soldering again. All my life seems to be soldering at the moment.

Hopefully will have it all screwed back together again for Saturday!

^^ Pretty sure I saw a crash compilation showing bits of that first video that didn't go quite so well :p Amazing skill though, when I grow up, I want to be 1/10th as good

So I get home from work to day to find a card from the post office tucked in my letter box with a customs charge label on it.

Yay my FPV gear finally made it out of Customs after 4 weeks!

Except the date on the card is for 20/08... What???

The post office only keep customs related parcels for 21 days... and I am now just out side of this by 1 day... and not ******* impressed.

So the missus is going to nip down to the post office tomorrow in the hope that the Post Office haven't sent it back yet other wise I could lose £100+.

Woo hoo got it... only just got around to opening the box this morning, they had to collect in it form the back of the truck that was going to take it back... really close call

Uh... just opened the box for the below from HobbyKing

1x #9052000065-3/6478 IMAX B6-AC Charger/Discharger 1-6 Cells (GENUINE) = $36.99

Came with a 3 Pin American plug... the charger is rated 100-240AC so can I just lop it off and throw on a UK plug and if so what fuse should I put in?
