Multirotor, multicopter and quadcopter discussion - The Drone thread

Looks like you need higher stick scaling or something so that it spins a lot quicker in the air, you want to be able to do a full loop in 1/2 a second or so if not faster when using full stick movement imo!

Suspicion confirmed! It's the props!

Radio C had an offer on for 4x 5030 props for £1, so I stocked up. Just reset my KK to factory settings and put the Gemfan props I originally had on it and it's back to exactly how it was before I started fiddling. No wonder I couldn't get any of the other firmwares working if they were all using duff props!

Just taken me dad's f550 for its 1st flight today loiter mode seems a bit of as it was doing a circle of around 8 feet but return to home worked well landed about 4 ft away from take off position

Doesn't help I suppose! I had a bad batch of "RCX" no name props from myrcmart a while ago. Binned about 4 pairs, they were that bad

I was bemused how nothing I did seemed to work, and then realized it could be the props. Swapping back and resetting the KK and were away.

Need to find a new supply of gemfan props now.

Gone for the same ones from HK again. Yes they come from China, but even with postage and 20% tax they are still cheaper than any UK supplier. Just means I will have to avoid breaking may more before they arrive :)

Do I bin the duff ones from Radio C?

These are better in every way

Cheaper, more powerful and arguably more reliable/take more of a beating (I've broke 3 Multistars ALMOST inexplicably :p)

I know they are only on the Int site, but the UK 1704s are out of stock anyway. 10a on 5030s should be fine, but I'd stick some decent quality 12a ESCs to open up the possibility of 5040/6" props

Test flight this afternoon. Had an observer present for feedback.

We have lift off!

and a subsequent demand for more altitude! (battery required a recharge though)

Thanks. i already have the 1704s, its just to make use of them.

Stumbled into some guys on a nearby common yesterday out flying. Only caught them flying planes but was good to see how the Bixlers fly as I've been considering buying one, having now seen one I probably won't as they really struggled even in a light breeze!
They also had a couple of TBS Discovery's, very shiny :)

Got to have a look through 2 different fatsharks, so now I know what to expect and might be able to make a decision into what to buy! Picture quality is better than I had expected considering the resolution although the screensizes aren't as high as I'd have hoped. Considering the size and picture quality of the Occulus rift headsets I'm puzzled why no-one has done something of a similar scale for fpv :s
Still leaning towards accepting that small screensize and getting a set of attitude v2s for the convenience of it coming in a ready to run bundle though.

In the meantime I've bought a second battery and a few other bits and pieces for my quad, still evading spending a load of money to move to 250 sized!

Keeping the screen size down masks the low resolution well. Putting a 640x480 image through a screen like the Rift would look pixelated.

All I can say about my weekend is triple check that the quad is disarmed and make sure you put the tx down when you pick the quad up, so there is zero chance that you might accidentally nudge the throttle as you pick the quad up.

I have quite a bad gash in my little finger that didn't stop bleeding for about 2 hours because I was an idiot and didn't do the above. Thought it was disarmed (did the stick manoeuvre) picked it up and as I did so, knocked the throttle (TX was on a neck strap)

I would show you some pics but the thought of taking the plaster off is making me queasy. And it still flippin hurts today.
