Multirotor, multicopter and quadcopter discussion - The Drone thread

Thanks for the heads up, ordered the cheaper one as I'll probably only break it or blow it up at some point soon any way.

It was available from the UK warehouse too, so should get it a bit quicker. Hopefully, might get out for a fly tonight. Usual spots in Bath were chocka today as rugby at the weekend and the sun is out.

I am now going to stop yacking, fiddling and blowing things up in favour of more time flying :)

These aren't the best bits of RC?!

Only when the missus hasn't filled your diary with all sorts of DIY goodness. It can get a bit acrimonious. I've discovered though, that staying up til 2AM soldering is actually the answer. The smell of Roisin makes a remarkable stimulant too!

Bedroom hover tests don't go down too well at that time though hahaha!

Wooft - x4 is mental!!! So fast and nippy!! great fun! Lots of practise needed for me and son to get use to it!

HD camera is actually decent footage!

Couple of stills from yesterday! We were filming for all of it - which looks epic - but these are just a couple we snapped in between.

Those are great, what camera do you use for that?

I've been following this thread with interest having bought a H107L for £17 on amazon the other day. I can't fly the thing and have learnt it's best not to do it indoors. However, they are great fun and even my mrs had a go and really enjoyed it.

Once I have mastered and exhausted the X4, what's the next step? A DJI Phantom or would it be better value for money to build my own?

Depends if you want the fun (or addictive frustration) of building your own. You can build a 250 sized quad from scratch with everything you need for under £200.

Definitely build your own 250, not that hard and great fun to fly, cheap to fix! If you have the money and want to get great video a Phantom is a great machine.

Bought an DJI Phantom FC40 today from Maplins. Not impressed with it.

Screws missing
Battery fails to charge
Manual has to be viewed online
2 random cables poking out that no one online has documented nor do the manual

It'll be going back and think I will pass

Russ, have you got live feed from the 5D on your setup? Or is it a case of having an fpv camera pointing the same direction and working from there?

Lisapete, sounds like you've been given a broken used one :s Fingers crossed you have no issues with the return.

Re-wired the power cabling on my quad. Swapped down to an XT60 connector instead of the XT90 and dropped to a lower AWG cable. Takes up much less room now!

Build your own! Gives you full freedom in what you want to fly, whether it be something more for aerial video or acrobatics :)

Thanks.

I know Lumenier do a QAV250 frame, but are the cheaper chinese copies worth buying or a waste of time? They are ~£30 compared to £100+ for the Lumenier version.

Had the X4 out in a nice big football field yesterday - great fun but constantly having to fly into the small breeze to keep it steady.

Anyone point to a simple free video editor? (don't like windows movie maker!)

Cheers

Thanks.

I've got one from FatSharkStore thats proper carbon, but was only £25.

Unfortunately it looks like FatSharkStore has closed now as the owner has been screwed by Fat Shart :(.

There are a number of others on here with chinese carbon clones, so check who has had good experiences.

I understand that most are not actually carbon but a plastic/epoxy mix or something like that.

carbon sheeting is quite cheap and if you were to say have access to a laser cutter bed, you could churn them out.
