Multirotor, multicopter and quadcopter discussion - The Drone thread

small, light, immensely strong. Agile and very quick with the right motors/props combo. Frame designed for FPV.

Pity you're not closer to Bath/Trowbridge or I'd let you have a go on mine.

Trowbridge? No wai! I'm from Westbury. Where do you fly? I need some good spots for when I go back and visit my parents.

A Y6 looks interesting but I'm with d brennen :D

I think I will just make a small Tri, I have a spare VTX and reciever already.....Next months wages getting spent already :D

Down facing props? Heresy! With the way I land it would be on the bench all the time :(

I know your talking about crashing but have you tried just grabbing it out the air from underneath? That's how I land every time now. I just fly it close to myself through the goggles then while hovering lift the goggles and bring it in LOS hover it at arms length and just grab it from underneath while turning off the throttle with the other hand.

Really easy and saves blowing dust and crap all over it when landing it on the ground.

Yeah hand launch and retrieve are a party piece of mine, however I was referring to "unplanned" landings :D Besides, I wouldn't fancy hand catching in a Y6

e: Naze32 is great for letterlly tossing into the air and throttling out, my KK2 often gets confused and levels itself upside down :p

The RC911 1.6++ firmware is meant to make the KK self leveling much better, including better identification of what is up and down.

I tried it and couldn't get it working while I had my cheap props issue, but haven't had time to go back and try it again since swapping back to decent props.

Don't trust taking off and landing from my hand. Used to do it on the Hubsan. But on the big quad I daren't take off by throwing it without self level, and the one time I tried it with it did the KK2.0 special of spinning 180 degrees straight into the floor :p
Luckily I'm not precious about it landing on the grass and ending up damp and muddy!

Ordered a Hubsan last month, found out it was delivered nearly 4 weeks ago - but not to me :(

:( Who was the seller/courier?

Dirt is a concern, especially on smaller quads where you don't really use landing gear. The bottom bearings are usually right on the bottom of the motor, exposed to the ground through the arms. Last thing you want is grit in your bearings, especially if they're well oiled

The bearings on some of my NTMs are so knackered that some mud in them would probably help :D

Multicharger is essential tbh, along with a few batteries. Note that the cheap 4 way chargers (not the one above) don't shut off when the battery is charged, they just turn the LED off to let you know it's done :p Puffing 4 batteries is quite easy to do, son't ask me how I know :o

Also an idea to let the motors cool down for a couple of minutes between flights. Heat is a big killer of brushed motors

That's cool then, let me know when you're down next and maybe we can hook up for some flying?

At the moment, I'm flying at either Biss Meadows or Southwick Parks. Neither tends to be too busy and there are some really nice bits at Southwick that are going to be perfect for FPV once I get vaguely competent at it!

Finally rebuilt everything although I do need to sort the OSD out. I popped my last one and 2 new ones have just arrived from HK Uk. Just gotta flash MWOSD and do the 5v mod.

Pics....

Also need to re-glue the front LED strip as it's not in the middle haha. Glueing at 2am is not reccomended.

Finger, post "incident". I have spoilered it as I know not everyone likes that sort of thing! It felt a lot worse than it looks!

Finally, I mentioned about the ts5823 mini 200w tx's before. Yeah, well, not sure I'm quite so impressed now. First one has developed random fault and won't hold it's frequency, switches every time I plug/unplug and the picture wanders. Bought 2 new ones, for the quad and one for the hexa. First one let the smoke out as soon as I plugged it in, second one has the problem with the power interference lines, even before the motors power up. It goes downhill from there.

Needless to say, all 3 are going back to vendor.

Anyone got any recommendations for a decent vtx? Not worried about price now as already have shelled out enough and I will be getting that back!

cheers - thanks for that info. Looks like some extra batteries and the multicharger above will be ordered shortly.

LOOKS good on paper and the couple of reviews on BG are positive. Seems like such a lucky dip with this kind of kit though, unless you want Fatshark lock in, which I do not.
