Multirotor, multicopter and quadcopter discussion - The Drone thread

Oh I see! Construction consultancy - one use for our drone is for doing blade inspections of wind turbines - also for marketing, and other maintenance inspection purposes

250 quad - Mobius vs. Goal Post. Mobius lost the fight.

LiPo went swoosh too (didn't see it, was FPVing..)

Can anyone recommend me a decent but cheap charger for my Hubsan?
I've got the 5 battery balancing cable as I posted earlier but need a charger for it, preferably something it will plug right into?

Thanks!

Ive just this minute ordered one of those cables :)

Wont it just plug into the usb charging lead that came with it?

Ive got a plug socket with a usb host that Im going to use. Im hoping this will be fine, but Ill see what people recommend for you.

Hey guys, total noobie here. Was prompted by the Parrot Drones being advertised.

My old man has become addicted to photography recently and been going on safari's and sea fishing etc. Plus he loves a gadget. Its his bday and xmas coming up so was thinking of getting him one of these drones, obviously with a camera.

Parrots look good but someone suggested they were expensive for what they are> Could someone recommend me one?

Doesn't have to be cheap, but nothing silly.
Needs to have a awesome camera (and HD)
Video and picture mode.
Any compatability with an ipad would be brilliant
Easy to fly / take pictures videos at same time.

Thanks all.

Does he have a GoPro? If so, you can get him a decent quad and strap the GoPro to it, that seems to get the best results. Quads with good cameras command a decent amount of money, there are cheaper ones with cameras but they're not very good at all.

Nah he doesn't. Although it is probably on his to get list I would imagine.

This may sound like a noob question, with the goPro (and most drones I'm guessing) how would you see what the camera is seeing?

The Parrot drones have the ipad compatability, which by the sounds of it, makes everything pretty simple and seemless.

Phantom Vision 2 would probably fit the bill. Around £700 though I think.

Anything cheaper would either not be as easy to fly, require constant upkeep soldering etc and not come with camera. An HD gopro alone is going to cost £300 ish.

Do some reading about DJI products first though. They are alleged to have a bit of a mind of their own.

If you can be bothered to read through this thread, it pretty much covers all the options from £25 up to £5k plus, self build or ready to fly, at various points as well as pointing out all the hilarious antics that inevitably result when ground meets plastic at terminal velocity or above!

The vision 2+ has a wifi link to tablet or phone I believe?

Others use a 5.8Ghz downlink from a small camera or direct from the gopro.

If flying in the back garden is about the height of his ambition. If you want an all in one package for AP, the easiest has to be a Phantom model. They aren't throwaway cheap, but considering it's a flying machine with a HD camera, the price is pretty incredible. For lower cost options which are comparable, there are literally millions of possible combinations of frame, motor, ESC, flight controller, recording camera and accessories like gimbals, GPS and FPV equipment... it would be impossible to advise unless your dad was up for a bit of research, DIY and patience ;)
