Multirotor, multicopter and quadcopter discussion - The Drone thread

Does having the DJI iPad Ground Station + 2.4 GHz Bluetooth Data Link mean much if you don't have an iOS device on which to use it?

Am looking at getting an F550 kit but just wondering whether to bother getting the one with those two bits above included for the long term or to save and lose those from my order!

Am looking at a Futaba T8J transmitter for the kit - sound good? Any other decent ones in that price range worth considering?

That's it, hex here I come :D shame the weather here on is probably going to be carp, not to mention the short days, usually only get one morning a week where I can sneak off to fly.

In other news, I ordered all the bits to make a sub 5g FPV system, 1g camera, 1g 10mw module + ancillary bits and bobs. Will be building a 60-70g nano h quad for some indoor proximity bashing over the long cold nights

Now that sounds like a good healthy interesting project for the winter.

Brushed or brushless motors?

I'm going to assume a satellite rx or a D4RII without it's coat?

KISS ESC's? (they will run brushed and brushless motors)

Afromini FC?

Also interested in this, spill the beans d_b :) we want to copy the build ;)

Had a weird issue over the weekend. Was FPVing fine with the 250pro quad, then it started giving me a rolled bias to the left. Stick centered but quad started going to the left. Flew it back fine.

Changed battery, took off fine, stable; then it started doing it again. Finished the flight fine just needed to correct a bit, landed, change battery and couldn't get it off the ground, would arm but nothing spinning.

Grass was really wet so put it down to that, let it dry, took it home, hooked up to PC with baseflight, props off, motor test via PC and everything is spinning up. Blades on, took it outside, one motor wont spin up....

More debugging required now... need to take the thing apart.

That's a weird one. If it's intermittent, I'd be checking all the soldered and wired connections I think.

Or it might just be an ESC on it's way out?

Odd that it's working in baseflight but not in the field, as it were.

It's going to be controlled by a Micro MWC (MultiWii, DSM2 built in) or hopefully AlienWii (also MultiWii, DSM2 RX) 8.5*20mm brushed motors (similar to Hubsan X4 107C/D), carbon H frame by a member of RCGroups, 1g camera from FPVHobby and a 5813 bare 5.8GHz module. I've been making dipole and CP antenna lately, with mixed success, so one of these soldered right to the module. Total weight should be in the region of 70g with a 750mah 1s battery and give some decent lift. Will be posting more about it as I get more bits in :)

I'll be building the FPV stuff first, as this will really dictate everything else. Tempted to get a BNF H107D to strip out for initial load/range testing before really investing... You can build a barnstorming 250 or half a ~300 class hex for similar money to this tiny stuff!

After 2 months of problems, my X4 finally turned up :)

:( Lost one of the lights and his eye light all ready.

Another crash seems to have fixed the light problem :)

Finally got my F550 up and running, already had a spectacular crash trying it indoors - backflipped it over a door with only minor prop scratches :)

Hopefully going to try it outside tomorrow - just low level hovering & fiber control.

Am liking the Futaba T8J I got - now we've finally got all the channels setup correctly!

In that area?! Wasn't me honest!!

Actually I wish it was, went to test my Versa wing last weekend, failed :) Pretty sure it's tail heavy, need a bigger battery to counter balance.

That does look like an RC model, but not sure of the point of the tilted rudders.

Great flying today but ended up with a disagreement with a goal post. 1 LiPo burst and a knackered Mobius... The FPV CMOS camera went flying too, took me 15 mins to find it.

Oh well time to rebuild. Looks like the mobius didn't record the last flight with the prang too grrrr, that would have been worth it - it was pelting at full speed :)
