Multirotor, multicopter and quadcopter discussion - The Drone thread

So did they improve this in v2?

Speaking of customs iv ordered my fatshark kit from hobbyking apparently coming from Hong Kong via UK direct channel

They gave me a royal mail signed for tracking which doesn't show you info until after its been delivered

How do I know if my item has arrived in the UK en route or if its stuck in customs? Last time I ordered something from the USA I'm pretty sure they sent a letter to my delivery address, stating to pay.

I ordered it on the 8th I think

Not an expert, but the theory is that the a roll flip should be happening with a neutral mavity pull, e.g. the just before the flip, you throttle up so that as you roll, the quad is flying up or straight with with no prop thrust, moving on inertia only.

The flip then just becomes a matter of initiating the corkscrew motion, and the throttle should be low when quad is upside down so that the props aren't making you loose altitude.

When whatching the likes of Charpu doing this (the latest flitetest vid with a view of his controller is really good) it all happens so fast that it just seems like getting the sequence on the controls timed just right. I'm pretty sure that his quad is dialled in a way to ensure all this happens really quick too.

I have been playing with the Phoenix 5 sim, there is a DJI Phantom model that is interesting to try and flip, given its a much heavier, less agile machine, you can really see how the forces are at play for a quick flip with little altitude loss. You need to punch the trottle, then drop it and fllip it at the top of the arc, just before it starts falling again (effectively weighless at the top of the throw).

The flip isn't the issue, the unpredictable control immediately after the flip is which I am ]thinking is down to pids. I have re flashed cleanflight again and am going to attempt a retune on it at the weekend.

In other news my camera arrived today so I have fitted it all and weather permitting will be crashing in fpv at the weekend IF I can find a quiet spot with no dog walkers. I did a quick test with my fpv gear and was surprised to see I could leave my quad in my back room and took the goggles down stairs and to the other side of the house, the picture remained perfect.

Looking foreword to the weekend!

I'm sorely tempted in getting a Nano QX FPV for indoor flying ! :)

The Nano QX FPV looks great, the Flite Test guys speak highly if them. But they are rather expensive, even if you buy just the quad.

Being able to fly around the house in FPV would be amazing!

If the weathers good this weekend I will be attempting to ween myself off self level. So... crashing lots.

Short flight with the DJI F450, got some foam and tried to do a phone camera mount but i am mounting it the wrong way clearly, the video still suffers from vibration.

My Naza V2 is still set to 150m RADIUS and 110m Alt that I set.

Just wanted to test this camera out. I was a way from the road. More on the field but because of the altitude looks like its closer than it is

Also had a go with the 250, doing some more flips, and some rolls now :) Managing to find where the limits are, and pull out of them smoother (ish) the best ones were not caught on camera.

Let me know how you get on and what issues you came across?

May try and fit mine on the weekend

Put them together last night, but just lightly put the screw's in. Going to fit them to the Hexenbeast (good old Grim ;) ) then once aligned right, take them off & thread lock the fasteners in place.
Not going to be able to put it on the front seat of my car now though. Going to have to empty the MiTo's boot to take it work or persuade OH that I need the Accord barge ;)

Cool :)did you use the mounting screw holes on the bottom plate of the dji ?

Or did you have to nut and bolt through different holes in the dji? If you get what I mean?

The plate on my landing skids same as yours, don't have mounting screws that line up with the leg screw holes on the dji. I have to use the longer holes on the dji plate.

Hard to explain, but see below, the only way I can see of mounting it, is by putting nut and bold through the 4 long sections on the DJI bottom plate, the one end means im am going to have to move my Naza flight controller PMU, something which I dont really want to do as I dont really have anywhere else to put it! But I need to move it to be able to get bolts through there.

And then the bolt it on to the mounting plates on the landing skid.

You can see where the bolts would go

Before I bought it I was hoping there would be holes ready to fit the skids to the DJI bottom plate, where the white legs screw in to, especially as its marketed for DJI450/DJI550.

Positioned it, not bolted down yet, but wanted to ensure this is roughly abou right.

Slightly worried about the positioning of the quad on the landing gear, looks a bit positioned towards the rear.

However I guess thats because its aimed at people mounting camera gear on? which will put some weight on the front?

Think I should be ok with this?

DJ, they some knobbly toes mate :D

F450 looking good man.

I can't fly today, the wind is just too much, bad things happen when i fly with wind :(

I have though been tuning pids today, i scrapped cleanflight and i think on this frame that is me done with it, the pid mechanics just dont mix with me very well tbh, baseflight just seems to be easier to tune in. I am close though and have implemented some other interesting settings too. looptime 1600, motor pwm rate 488, tpa breakpoint 1700 though this will need some fine tuning.

The thing is starting to feel locked in, I'm getting a little bounce on the stop of the rotation out of roll maneuvers and I'm yet to start trying to really tune in the yaw but things look promising, of course only a real flight will tell for sure.

Flying the thing around my back garden now with the fpv gear on having flown 4s on the 5040's with bare minimum on the frame she feels fat again :( auw is 545g. may need the kiss 18a and some 6" props along with some 1800mah batts, that will be expensive :/ we will see though.

I dont have knobbly toes :p :(

Cheers :) yeh its good to fly too, just wanted to get this landing gear mounted as its been in my cupboard for long enough.

Sucks you have wind, today here is really nice, sun is out, hardly a gust in the air but unfortunatly im a bit pre-occupied, but getting some of the bits out the way (landing gear) and also painted some standoffs which will later be mounted to my 250 arms for the crafts short legs. Shouldnt be too long now before they are ready

Im sticking with baseflight on this, although I still need to do a bit more reading on PIDs, I dont understand a massive amount, only that it helps lock in and tigten up flying when moving and pulling maneuvers but dont understand it fully and how its configured. But I will read when I get a chance

First test flight with the HotFPV landing skids on my DJI F450, some teething issues, which I will now explain in my YouTube video below *Note, includes me talking, a quick overview of the product, explaining the issue, and demonstrating*

Thought it might be of use if anyone experiences this, or for me when I work it out to advise on the issue.

See below youtube video, click and open in Youtube, it will be better, even more so in full screen because of the rotation, sorry about that

The 550 bottom plate is a lot larger as you can see, so no problem lining the holes up.

need to remount the LED/USB port for the Naza now, may fasten it to one of the rear legs, so i can see it.
Got an AeroXcraft GPS mast plate on its way. Can mount the mast right at the front
Naf pictures from the Lumia 900, grrrrrr

Looking good. :)

Although you have mounted yours different to mine, but yeah your using holes and nut and bolts

Your using the two smaller plates in the middle and have no bigger plate in the middle

Im using the two smaller mounting plates that come with the kit, and I have the model resting on a bigger plate in the middle

My led unit /USB is mounted just on the side of one of the white arms on the rear of the quad. Not too far from the body but it is on the side of the arm.

When are you testing the above mounting out? Can you let me know if you get any oscillation or shaking problems?

See my earlier post and YouTube video of the issue I'm having

I have the clone F450 frame but the same landing gear. What I did was remove the plate you screw onto to the bottom and run the bolts straight into the aluminium brackets.
